Joshua Trees, maybe not so much. They're cool, and it's fun to hear about how they only grow 1 inch per year, so they're like ancient, but after that, you see one, you've kinda seen them all. And there's a lot of them. Then again, it could be fun for them to see "shapes" within the tree forms. "That one looks like a... !"

It can depend ... Joshua Tree also has large rock formations, so they can climb on them (or at least we did when I was in the Boy Scouts). Also, there were some mines in the area, so you have to keep watch on them.

Pioneertown
Joshua Tree National Park, USA
Sights › Film, tv location

Just north of Yucca Valley, Pioneertown was built as a Hollywood Western movie set in 1946, and it hasn't changed much since. On Main St, witness mock gunfights at 2:30pm on Saturdays and Sundays from April to October.

Film sites in Mojave Desert

With Pictures (Movies/TV) (Photographer site.)

The Church in Kill Bill Pt. 1 & 2 is there, along with where NCIS filmed the shootout for the death of the NCIS Director, Jenny. Also the motel from Identity.

Mojave also has Baker -- World's Tallest Thermometer and the Alien Jerky store (take pics of the kids with "aliens").

Calico Ghost Town is off the 15 just outside Barstow on the way back from Vegas.

Edit: If they climb on the rocks, make sure it's pants you don't care about. Chances are they will be ripped when done.

Hey doc o, the desert is an acquired taste for some, especially kids. It has taken me time to appreciate the quiet, nuanced beauty that it has to offer.

It depends - do you want to cover a vast area to expose the kids to a variety of geography, or stick close to one area and see as much as that area has to offer?

I would stick to places that all generations might enjoy. That said, I would visit Death Valley (PM me for specifics that are easy and no hiking during hotter weather) on the long way to San Diego area. Once in SD county, visit Legoland, The Wild Animal Park (I prefer it to the zoo), visit the naval ships, go to the beach (and Sea World for the kids if that's of interest). The Palm Spring Aerial Tramway to San Jacinto Peak (You'll drive through Joshua Tree, go "look at the funny looking trees!"), Salton Sea (desolate but fascinating). But really, for the kids, not much will beat Legoland!

So ... April 1st .... So is there a Bunnies Ogling Carrots up now? Any guesses?

Edit: Main thread is guessing 8am CT based on the time for the "email" from Snapster. Or 30 minutes after that based on the "March 'til we Stop" blog post/wootcast.

Today's official project is 'paint the apartment before folks come over for Easter'

The unofficial project while the lady is at church is 'wine fridges need unloaded before I move them for painting the walls, so I might as well update CT before Spring shipments start rolling in this week'

There have been surprises both ways - nice bottles that I vaguely remember drinking w/ no notes that needed removed from CT - and also killer bottles that I'd forgotten about that needed added to the CT.
Takeaway - riesling accounts for nearly a quarter of my cellar, with the Mosel being the top region, Loire, NY State, Rhone, and CA rounding out the top 5.
Takeaway #2, I procrastinate too much.

Just looking at the map, Death Valley seems pretty far out of the way, so we were thinking of going to the Mojave Desert and Jashua Tree parks, since they look "on the way" to SD. The Salton Sea as well as the ghost town look pretty cool. Probably legoland one day, the aquarium the next. Possibly the Navy Pier in SD after that. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

I have to laugh at that one... I had a cat that did that once...I never did clean the print off the dryer!! or my other favorite is when dog walked down the hall and his tail made streaks in the wall and then he re deposited on many other parts of the house!!

My dad found a cockatiel in the engine compartment of a train when I was a kid (I know, odd fertilizer happens to me). Anyway, I used to let the bird fly around cause I felt bad about it being in a cage all the time. One day it got out of my room, flew into the living room and landed in my mom's Nacho Cheese. It hopped out and walked across the coffee table and left little cheesy bird prints. I almost died laughing. My mom, not so much.

I finally got around to putting Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) on my Touchpad. Works pretty slick, but HBOGO doesn't work on it

I can easily boot into WebOS until they get that figured out though. So be it.

Where did you go to get the dual boot? Respond via PM if that is preferable.

it's all open source, android and the mod, so no problems:

http://liliputing.com/2012/01/how-to-install-android-4-0-on-the-hp-touchpad-cyanogenmod-9-alpha.html

is the instructions for Ice Cream Sandwich. It's super easy to follow. Get the latest daily update though:

http://get.cm/?device=tenderloin Its the one dated last night.

use that in place of update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-Touchpad-alpha2-fullofbugs.zip

YOU STILL NEED update-cwm_tenderloin-1012.zip though. And don't unzip anything. they're supposed to be zipped (but you'll read that). Took about an hour for the first one and about 10 minutes for the second. Basically, I checked, rechecked, rechecked and then rechecked again for good measure the first time around.

Edit: it's cool and I really like it, but there are things I really really like WebOS so I'll bounce back and forth a lot I think. Also, I was able to download all the apps I've previously purchased for my phone to the Touchpad.

oh, and for whatever reason the Android OS will treat part of your tablet as an SD card, even though obviously it isn't so dont' freak out if you go into your apps setting and see you have almost no memory available. You just gotta click over to SD card and start moving stuff over to it.

Edit doux: it is SO MUCH FASTER under android

The Shakespeare in Delaware Park Fabulous Feast Dinner and Auction was a great success last night. ddeuddeg and I are still recuperating! We had some really nice and fun items--including a Pheasant Hunt! That really got people duking it out on the Live Auction! justinrsanderson & his wife joined us for the fun. I will be heading up to bed shortly. I need to try to ward off the next bout of what is starting to present itself as a cold! I can't afford to be sick--singing every night this week for rehearsals or services--except for Tuesday!
