Keller Estate Pinot Gris (4)

Memories Of Comrades Past

When your life's bottle is empty, and you look back on your grand adventures, it'll be the companions you paired with that you'll miss the most.

"Grampa Pinot, tell me again! Tell me about those adventurous food pairings!"

"Of course, little one. Come, sit by Grampa's knee and hand me my old collection of mementos. I'll tell you the tale of my three best friends. They called us... the four pack."

"And you all were from the Keller Estate?"

"More than that, little one. We were all Pinot Gris... together."

"Tell me about this one! The hat!"

"Ah, my old leather fedora. I got this in Egypt at the market place. That's the last time I saw Bottle One. We called him Oneie. Old Oneie paired perfectly with some saffron accented mussels. Something about the notes of nectarine he carried, she couldn't resist. We said we'd meet on the steps of Big Ben a year to the day. Little did I know, Big Ben has many steps, some of them even off limits to the public. I tried as many as I could, but... well, we never saw each other again."

"Tell me about this one, Grampa!"

"Ah, the glass cat necklace! Twoie gave me this, we were like brothers. He said it would bring me luck. He got it in Thailand, where he still lives today! Said he paired nicely with the spicy flavors there. We still write, from time to time. You know, on Facebook."

"What's this, Grampa?"

"Ah, my old bugle! Threeie always coveted this. We'd laugh and tell him "one day, Threeie, one day!" Then we were in... Calcutta? Fuguay-Varina? It escapes me now. All I know for sure is that, when I gave him this, he had the greatest look of pride on his face. I'll never forget it. A great day for us all."

"But Grampa... how did you get it back if-"

"Oh ho! You're too young for that story, little one! Let's just say we had a falling out over an onion tart that paired a bit too well with our graceful notes of peach."

"A falling out? But he was part of your four pack!"

"One day, little one. You'll understand better one day."
