Well, that is true. We have one wine warehouse near here that is awesome. Lots of variety at cheap prices. But I was hoping Woot wines would add some more variety, and oddball wines that I could add to my list of taste tests. Pehaps some Texan wines, some Florida Wines, etc.

We'll see at 1 am if that is true. I aint holding my breath.

Yo, Woot. Am I missing something here? It would be nice to be able to track the wine order so I'd know when it is scheduled to arrive.

Kinda sort agree with that sentiment...LOVE Woot, LOVE Wine, live in a next-door state, was even the first order...was hopin' to have for the weekend but alas we ended up at Lee's Liquer instead which is ALWAYS a financial risk due to the gotta-haves. But must admit the gotta-have screwtop Conumdrum was quite tasty indeed on a hot Vegas weekend at the grill.
Sigh.
Not the same as a tasty Syrah.
Humph.
I must excuse myself to go pout for a few minutes out of disappointment and and petulance.

I was wondering the same thing. This was my first Woot, and as far as I can tell it hasn't even shipped yet.

Ditto and ditto. Can any more experienced wooters lend some insight into the average wine.woot.com shipping scenario, or is it pretty dependant on the particular winery providing the wares?

Anyone get theirs yet? I'm wondering about some tasting reviews. I've only seen one review, and it is the same one posted all over, originating from the winery.

The order page says that if the status hasn't been changed to "shipped" in five days, to look here for news, and post if there's none.

So, it's been six days now -- is there a holdup?

Ground UPS? Good Lord...

Scheduled Delivery: 07/18/2006
Shipped to: GLEN ALLEN, VA, US
Shipped or Billed on: 07/11/2006

Won't this basically mean that the wine is going to have baked on its way to me? UPS Ground is a horrible choice, right? I was thinking about getting a wine cellar/fridge but if the wine I'm getting is baked in transit I'm not sure what the use is...Hell, USPS Priority Mail would get here in 3 days and likely be nearly an equivalent cost.

This is my first Woot and obviously my first wine.woot as well. I also went for the Foley. If I'm to expect 7 day transit times in extreme heat, I won't bother anymore. Did the other wines shipped to the East Coast go via UPS Ground? Am I being too concerned about this???

Bought mine 07/03/06. Status: "Your Order Is In." Its been 10 days and counting. I'm parched.

UPDATE: Ah yes! Just received it today, 07/13/06, 10 days after ordering. I'm in So. Cal. and checked UPS Tracking - it took two days to get here and arrived in great shape!

Thank you Woot!

I'm concerned about it getting baked. A week in transit? That can't be good.

Worry not...truth be told, most wine isn't shipped in luxurious air-conditioned trucks. I live up the street from a good liquor store and sometimes I walk by in the AM on my way to work, when they're getting deliveries. Plain ol' 6-wheel freight truck, that's it, nuttin' fancy. In other words, this wine isn't getting any rougher treatment than most others out there....

That's no excuse, honestly. If we know that heat can hurt wine, I'd rather have the appropriate steps taken to minimize the exposure than just going with the status quo. Maybe Woot could offer an upgraded shipping cost for those who care to pay more for faster shipping? I'd be willing to pay more for that service. I'm sure others would, too.

I finally tasted a bottle. And I am disappointed.
This is definately NOT expensive wine. It's the first Syrah I've ever had that was distinctly sweet.
Not complex enough, the sweetness masks the flavors. The Color is a great though, Inky Black. It's not the Screw top, because I've had an excellent Screw Top wine from Down Undah that was absolutely awesome, and it only cost me $10 per bottle from winebuys.com.
I'm thinking that Woot is selling these wines at great discounts, because they are less than adequate wines that didn't sell.

You tasted what...The Macrostie? When did you get it? I've been doing a lot of reading about wines and most people say you should let a wine sit for 1-2 weeks after it was shipped before drinking it. One person even said that if you don't think shipping it makes a difference...Take two bottles that have been sitting around. Shake one bottle vigorously. Open both bottles and drink a glass of each.

I've never tried it, honestly, so I can't say one way or the other...

Anyone seen what the drinkability window is for this wine? Maybe it needs to sit for a few more months/years? I'll get mine on Monday and will open a bottle the following week. Hopefully the results will be good!

So since ordering this Woot Wine, I have been trying to figure out what to do with it!

I've done a fair amount of reading and have decided to go with a 28-bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler / Cellar. Specifically either the Avanti EWC28 (~$218 shipped), the Edgestar TWR281S (~260 shipped), or the Urbina Design (~$230 shipped). Anyone know anything about any of these?

I've also come across a great site that is FREE (Though donations accepted) that allows you to keep track of the wine you have and drink and compare your notes with other people, etc. www.cellartracker.com Pretty nifty place and considering the fact that I'm going to have a hard time not buying these Wine Woots, it'll be extremely valuable.

My biggest concern is that a 28-bottle cooler won't be enough. Though, it'll help push me to keep drinking the wine once it is full!

Okay, this is starting to drag. On the 11th, it changed from "ordered" to "shipped", but the tracking has been stuck at "billing info received" since then.

EDIT: Well, it finally shipped yesterday, expected delivery of 7/24. If it actually arrives then, it's 19 days between ordering and shipping. Bleh.

I received my shipment at 9:30 am in Austin. The bottles were hot, at least 80+ degrees. Apparently it sat in a UPS warehouse over the weekend. I'll wait 2 weeks and see how it tastes. Woot on....

Mine are coming tomorrow...It's really hot here and typically UPS puts it on the truck in the AM and it gets delivered at around 5PM. So, they'll bake. Oh well. I'll be getting my wine cooler in about a week and then they can rest happily at 60-degrees for a few weeks.

I just received my order today, July 17. In Kansas City, it is well over 100F with the heat index. My bottles were not overly hot and seemed to travel nicely for the past couple days. I will let them sit in the cellar for a while before trying but I was very happy with the condition they arrived in after reading posts about wine arriving extremely hot. Thanks Woot!!! How about a refreshing white in honor of these record temperatures!!!!

Just recieved this today in MO, looks good for the price, will let it sit a week before opening. Still waiting to hear about a replacement for the Vinegar Pinot I recieved last time.

I was absolutely positive that my wine was going to be cooked again (the St. Supery was and woot promptly replaced it. Thanks woot!). But despite today being over 100F, and the box being in the back of the UPS truck that the driver estimated at 130F from 4am-2pm, the bottles were only slightly warm. I think the styrofoam packaging worked. There's also no stains down the side of the bottles like I saw in the last shipment, so maybe they survived? They're resting now, I'll crack one in a week and post back.

I finally received this wine and cant wait to try it. My only concern is when I opened the package and touched the bottles, they were extremely warm to the touch. What effect is this going to have on the wine? I fear that sitting on the UPS truck in these extreme summer temps is going to be a problem. Anyone have any thoughts? Am I needlessly concerned?

speedoo

quality posts: 41 Private Messages speedoo

My case arrived today as scheduled by UPS. The styrofoam packaging really helped as most of the bottles were not very warm. No evidence of leakage and the screw tops are impressive!

It also helped that the UPS truck was about 4 hours earlier than normal, on the hottest day of the year.

joeyjojo44

quality posts: 0 Private Messages joeyjojo44

yup, just got these in. Warm, but nice styrofoam. I have them cooling off on the AC until I can take them home. Amazingly, the screw caps yielded no leakage. Still waiting for Foley and Nicholson.

After inspecting the bottles, one screw cap looks to have been tampered with. The tab ring was broken, but I didn't see any sign of leakage and the screw cap was still on tight. Not sure what to do next.... drink it and risk death, or just call it a loss.

Got it in the UPS today *SCORE* in Virginia, noce speedy delivery!

Sadly, I was not even asked by the driver if I was drunk, even though I was acting abnormally happy to see the guy and was hoping to see what sort of "sober-test" he'd administer. I almost think he didn't know it was wine?

Will wine.woot ever do a Braille on Cookiesspecial? Random leftover wines in a bag? That'd be cool.

Oh, and I second the beer.woot.com motion!

Thank you woot! My life is just a little bit better now that I know you...

My MacRostie arrived today...after a train delay... I was surprised to see them use a train for shipping. It's the slowest form of transportation out there. I also missed my delivery yesterday and had to wait today for it. My daughter was never so happy to see the man in the brown truck! I'm letting this sit for at least a week before opening. It was pretty warm to the touch but I was impressed with the styrofoam packing. The first time I've received a wine delivery with it. I guess I need to get out more.
