I know, I know, but high quality Cab grapes aren't cheap. Then again, a Napa Cab would be $60 for a 375ml.

seriously tempted despite a full cellar and preferring older vintages...

the 07 seems well liked.

Could you tell us the differences between this new label and your other cabs?

*edit* This isn't a new label the woot label is just different then the winery label. My mistake.

Well, the last one was the 07, which was primarily Halter Ranch, and considerably more tannic - this is softer and richer. It's not all Westside, either.

The Vinidictions are Cab/Syrah blends, not varietal Cabernet, so this is the first Cab, unstrictly speaking, in three years. I do like to change labels around - this flying Zeppelin is original artwork from Adam Licsko, though the general idea was mine. It rather looks like the Germans were giving the Japanese a hand in balloon fire-bombing California during WW2, and Paso is burning in the background.

Oh wait. It's not a balloon!

Don't age it on the dashboard! (Robert Parker joke.)

My wife is going to kill me, I'm in for one. And I wish you'd offer that Rose here. Summer's nearly here and I love me some chilled rose.

Oh what's the drinking window on this?

Isn't enough of it - and the label's illegal anyway. At least, the one I superimpose once the release form's signed.

If I only had two bottles, and any self control, I'd have one this year, and one in three years.

Winery Labrat

(got it from Stillman a couple of weeks ago to let it rest, and unlike some, didn't blab early about it!).

Tonight's report: YUM!

78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 11% Petite Sirah.

2 for $59 plus $5 shipping. So $32.50 for 2, $31.25 for 4, or $30.83 for 6 bottles.

American Wine Society score: 17 (Excellent)

Parker Wine Rating scale score: 88 (Very Good)

Using a Riedel Vitis Cabernet glass for tasting. Bottle has been open over 2 hours. Also tasted using a Travel Vinturi.

Tasted first on it's own, and then with a nice, juicy Porterhouse steak. Nom, nom, nom!

It is a deep velvet ruby, with thick, prominent drip legs. Not much heat on the nose or tongue.

Similar to the Woot write up, I got a nose of blackberry, black currants, cherry, and some plum, with hints of earth and cedar; not too many tannins, so very drinkable right away.

The mouth shows moderate acidity and smoothness. The palate has a long finish with the same elements as the nose with dried cherries and plum dominant.

Worked very well with the porterhouse.

Will try to post more after another 1 or 2 hours tonight. Still sipping it.

Like Stillman says, I will try one now, and one in 3 years.

I'm in...two bottles for that price. I've been working from seven, seven, seven to eleven and baby it's a drag, drag, drag...let me tell you it's a drag.

Need a little good stuff to make it better. Nice Bordeaux style, boutique and a zep fan to boot, what could go wrong? Think I'll go over the hills and far away and sip a bottle of this...

Thanks! (For a higher Parker score, should I have added saccharine, sawdust, and mouse merde?)

I really have enjoyed most of stilmans wines but I have no room currently and a lot of cab. So this is a reluctant pass.

I've been on a Paso Robles-centric wine kick lately, thanks mostly to that darn good D&D back in February (hey WD, how about some more Tercero or Estrella Creek? hint) and I've started mapping out a visit to the area. Stillman, you're definitely on the list. I've got too many 100% Cabs cellaring so this "almost" Cab with the added CF and PS is right up my alley. Big thanks to MarkDaSpark for report. Looking forward to my first voyage on the Zep!

What ever adds more tannins. Poopy diaper, anyone?

Still tasty! Okay, time to hit the hay. I turned into a pumpkin, 1 hour and 1 glass of Cab ago!

Not to nitpick... I wanted to see if you had tasting room (which, unfortunately you don't... but oh well)... However, I was somewhat surprised to see a local winery misspell "Morro Bay" on the website:

"The Galley in Morro Bay
899 Embarcadero
Morrow Bay, CA. 93442
805-772-7777
http://www.GalleyMorroBay.com"

I'm also a little surprised that you don't have any distributors in SLO... I'm sure that some place like Vintage 1255 would be more than happy to carry it, since they specialize in local wines...

Don't you hate when you open the front door and hear the back door slam? Must be one of them new fangled back door men.

Common spelling error . . . which is why I like to call it Baja Cayucos. I have been known to pour Zeppelin wines at the Red Zeppelin Winery tasting room in Morro Bay on special occasions (aka when I have any left) and am in several restaurants and wine bars. I don't usually sell to retailers since I woot and direct ship at lower prices. The Galley usually has a couple of my wines on their list, and the Anderson Inn upstairs is where the Zeppelin airship owner stayed the last time he was in town. (He drove, though.)

That's the Rock Star's spelling error, btw. That's on an old page at the Red Zeppelin Winery site, I better have it fixed!

Stillman, I'm new to woot and I guess to some wine terminology. Someone posted you last nite about some "GB" that you might have soon. What is "GB"?

GB = Grenache Blanc, the grape that is 80% of the 2011 Chateau d'Abalone (the rest is Viognier). I had a little left but pulled it off the massive, ornate, flashy ZeppelinWinery.com website . . . ok, tiny, simple, glaring single webpage . . . to make room for the Cabernet.

Anytime somebody tries to outdo you with wine-speak - which will probably be the next poster - just say, "Well, I hear that Bonny Doon gets all their biodynamic Velcorin from Stillman Brown."

Ah, but you haven't seen Pete The Butcher - same singer and guitarist as Dread Zep, even goofier music. They'll play my next party, along with Meth Leppard (not a cover band). I will turn 55, so the party name is SPEED LIMIT.

Still sufferring major bank drainage from that Woot-off.

It was so long that my InZin turned up yesterday (the day after it finished) - super fast shipping Scott!

Deciding whether I can pass this up though? Non-buyers remorse may be high.

how does this compare to other cabs (like the wellington vertical that i just picked up, or the meeker kiss)?

but really, seeing the cab franc in the mix made me push that button...to the untrained eye, my "not buying wine" phase looks a lot like my "stocking up" phase.

+1000.

Both the 2011 Chateau d'Abalone Grenache Blanc and the 2007 Riesling are marvelous. But the 2011 Dry Pink ROCKS THE HOUSE! I'm ready to saddle up the pirate party bus and plunder whatever bottles are left!

Quite honestly, my palate has shifted away from big reds. But there isn't a Stillman Brown wine that I've tried that I haven't loved. So I'm in on this deal.
