Saw this as a VA license plate the other day and it made me chuckle and figured I'd share it.

So, at lunch yesterday and ordered a 2009 J.L. Chave Sélection St. Joseph Céleste. The wine was listed on the menu as a Rousanne, but CT has it listed as a Marsanne. One of the tasting notes even says it is 15% Rousanne, and 85% Marsanne, but the server was insistent that it was 100% Rousanne. Any one know where I can go to confirm this? Can't find a website for them.

Here's a photo of the label:

Well, this blog from January talks about a tasting last November where the importer introduced the wines. The blog stated it was 100% Rousanne.

The Langdon Shiverick Technical PDF (importer) says the same, but the label says 2008, not 2009.

I noticed that CT shows Marsanne for all four years (2001, 2007 to 2009, including the above listed 2008). So I'm suspecting that perhaps the 2001 was that, and they (Chave) changed it in 2007 or 2008, but whoever created the CT entry just copied the 2001 over, and either forgot to change the varietal or didn't realize it was different.

I noticed that a lot of the purchases was from 56° Wine, and they listed the 2009 as 100% Marsanne. But their tasting notes (Juicy white peach, passion fruit, creme brulee, orange zest,) somewhat conflict with the CT tasting notes (citrus (mostly lemon or lime) & melon notes, with only one note of peach) for the 2009.

So I probably would go with the Importer on it.

Nope, it worked. Between that and avoiding all storm damage this weekend I'm in a decently good mood. at least what passes as a good mood for me.

Thank you everybody for all of your birthday wishes! I had a really nice day despite having to go back to work after a week off. ddeuddeg & I went out to a nice, early dinner before choir rehearsal. We had a bottle of 2008 Alpha Estate Xinomavro Hedgehog Vineyard. It worked well with my lamb.

It seems like their server is acting quirky. I just tried to vote through my sig but got a message that they are doing some maintenance work. ddeuddeg voted using the link in my sig earlier today. I noticed yesterday that it takes a while for the page to load.

I hate the orthodontist, not that it's his fault, but I hate him nonetheless. Already meager, but improving, wine budget....gone.

Anyone in Los Angeles next Tuesday (4/24), Sonoma in the City is coming to LA (well, West Hollywood).

Only 200 tickets, early bird pricing is $40.

Wineries include Dry Creek, Foppiano, Gundlach Bundschu, Iron Horse, La Crema, MacRostie, Matanzas Creek, Schug Carneros, Seghesio, & others.

Pink's Hot Dogs is about 8 minutes away, for an after event snack. And K&L Wines isn't too far from there either. I may hit Phillippe's for a late lunch, then visit K&L on the way there.
