Does anyone have any feedback on their Zin? Their Cab is fizzy at first, but tasty after it's been aerated and sits for an hour or two.

Their 2008 Zin seems to have been popular as an everyday drinker. And well-priced for that. I'd be buying if I wasn't aswim in a sea of wine without adequate storage. Hope one of the Woot platforms eventually offers a cooler that will hold about 250 bottles (including the large bottles used for sparklers).

Some questions for "Chatsextant" or whomever is staffing the hotline at the winery for us...

1. Tech Analysis - The TA is 0.63 g per 100 ml, correct? And what about the RS? Is that 0.3 g/100ml?

2. Drinking window on this wine?

Thanks!!

Regards,

Greg

I recall seeing this at the bevmo 5 cent sale for around $8.50 a bottle, I wish I had picked it up then so I could post some impressions today but I did not. For anyone who has had this, it's priced like a daily drinker which for zin typically means its a lighter style. How would you classify this particular wine?

I really liked the Sextant 2008 Zin. In general, the 2009 Paso Robles Zins are even better than the 2008s IMHO. So I have no problem going in for the max on this one.

Definitely got my attention ... looking forward to learning more from the vintner and those who've tried their Zins ...

Also - anyone know where this wine sits relative to their "Wheelhouse" designation? I can find pricing, etc. about their "Wheelhouse" Zins but not much otherwise, and this label isn't the "Wheelhouse" label.

The drinking window is going to be a major factor for my purchase since my wife has a tendency to get into the wine stash willy nilly whenever she needs bottle to cook with or drink , I only have so many "safe" spots for long term (or even more than a few months)

Bottle tags solved that problem for me when I am traveling!

Agree, wine tags saved my best bottles from my better half and provided some key notes for me, especially when my cellar was a 12 bottle cooler and few cardboard boxes.

Have enjoyed every Sextant wine I have purchased from Woot and pretty confident this will be no different. I do agree with the earlier comment about a slight effervescence which aerating and a small amount of time eliminates. The previous zin was very fruit forward and enjoyable to drink right away. Suffice it to say I have none left and gladly went in for this offering.

No firsthand knowledge, but in the 2008 offering Wheelhouse was described as their flagship and most balanced bottle, this being a lighter style:

I wonder why the buy 3 bar is still stuck at 0%. hmm......

That being said, my sig other and I very much enjoyed the Cab. Waiting to here from Sextant on some of the questions, but I can't imagine not taking a shot at these...especially for the price.

It's great to be a Florida Gator!

Because you can't buy more than a case, which is two orders.

Question 1 is correct. Both g/100ml which is also %.

Drinking window is 5 years.

Thrilled to be offering our 2009 Central Coast Zinfandel to the woot community! We have been sold out in house for over a month--we set aside the last of our stock to save for YOU!

Tasting notes on 2009 Central Coast Zinfandel:
There’s a density of fruit nuanced with secondary and tertiary flavors. Raspberries and blackberries invigorate the palate while glimmers of tapenade, pepper, and cinnamon accentuate this medium-bodied and textured wine. Invigorating acidity and smooth tannins lift the layers of flavor towards a satisfying and quenching finish.

This is your favorite everyday Zinfandel!!!!!

I bought the Sextant Zin last time, and there is one bottle left, so we have definitely found this stuff to be quite drinkable.

It is not as much of a fruit bomb as some Paso Zin - it's a bit thin compared to other similar styled zins. It is, however, a decent bottle of wine to pop on a Tuesday night and well worth the $10/bottle.

This is a great bottle of wine for any occasion. You're absolutely right! Easy to drink, light weight- enjoy on it's own or with a wide array of food.

So, I am still recovering from a head injury, so I can't actually DRINK wine, but I can certainly buy it. Anyway, my brother said he had some of Sextant's other offerings at a tasting, and they were very tasty (and based on the prices he mentioned, this sounds like a good deal). Based off that, it sounds like a good buy and I am in.

Any time I see a Sextant Woot, I am in...like Zin! Great, easy drinking for about $10 a bottle.

Haven't had a clunker yet from Sextant...if you're on the fence, I recommend you go for it.

If I wasn't already pretty heavy on Zin my "cellar" I would probably Jump on this. As it stands 15-20% of what I have is Zin and I probably don't need more just yet.

Agree on the thin comment, I'm staying with just Cab's for now, the Zin's are OK but I'm more for a deep robust wine.

Sextant was one of the first to get thier Maryland permits so for that alone I'm in for a case to show my appreciation. We very much enjoyed their Chard so looking forward to this as a tax free table wine.

And can't beat $0.42 shipping per bottle.

As a follow up to my previous comment, we did have some of the Sextant 10knots Viognier offered here previously and thought it to be very good as well.

I did not see this mentioned elsewhere.
From the winery's notes:

Winemaking: With fruit sourced from our San Ardo Ranch (just north of Paso Robles, CA) this Zinfandel was blended with Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Mourvedre. Planted on the highest peak, these chalky soils produce fruit of intense flavors and unique mineral qualities. Fermented in Stain Steel and aged 11 months in 10% Eastern European Oak barrels.

(this is the same as the 2008)
