Little impromptu woot gathering/BBQ last night with CAGrl, trifecta, ajrod27, and random122.

Sinnet Rose sparkling wine (this was a LB split with CAGrl who was gracious enough to share one of her bottles, and it was very tasty)

2007 Virage Vineyards Red Bordeaux Blend that was predominately Cab Franc - very tasty once it opened up

2007 WineSmith PennyFarthing Barbera - totally solid Barbera

2007 WineSmith PennyFarthing RRV Pinot Noir - outstanding for the $

1984 Napa Valley Reserve Cab (don't recall the maker? but funky cork aside, it was excellent)

2004 Meeker Cab Franc - what can I say, Lucas makes great Cab Franc!

2008 EOS Zin Port - not bad, went well with cigars

Good wine and good times!

Looking at this list, no wonder NorCal wooters are considered lushes. Agreed. The wines were great! Can't pick out a favorite of the night. But the barbera was great QPR for sure! Thanks for letting us hang out at your place.

I remember it as being a smooth, easy-drinker from when I tried it back in December but it seems even more fruit forward now. Just referenced my original notes and it still has that candied quality to the nose and palate but it seems more like strawberry than the cherry I previously tasted. The oak has settled down quite a bit already which may be why the fruit really stands out now.

Still enjoying it but now even more convinced that it should be consumed sooner, rather than later.

2009 Frei Brothers Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. This was really good, especially for the $9 or so that I paid. Nice and peppery, and I thought it had a hint of tobacco. Definitely head and shoulders above what I've been getting lately. Oppressive wine budget is soon to be relaxed...so soon!

So we're thinking of putting together a winesmith order aside from the woot+. Any takers? I'm looking to try the Pennyfarthings and maybe the Cab Franc. Might get the Pinot from woot+.

2004 Astrale e Terra Estate Syrah (Scott Harvey, winemaker), with grilled pork tenderloin and grilled fresh peaches, with arugula and a fresh basil & pine nut vinaigrette. This wine is still drinking beautifully, with some stewed prunes on the nose, and a bit of bottle bouquet developing. My guess is that it has a year or 2 left before it starts downhill.

The white was basically dead, unfortunately. Got a glimpse of its potential excellence but it only lasted about 2 minutes.

The Medoc was quite good, surprisingly free of sediment (there was some, but not much), not oxidized at all, and quite light on its feet. Great flavours and didn't even seem all that old. This despite the cork smelling pretty nasty and the wine having lined the entire side of the cork all around and all the way up its length.

Nope - Estate Chard. That be barrel fermented, and it's pretty clear on both the nose and palate. FWIW, the cork appeared fine.
