The following wine blurb is off of a distributor's website. It indicates the juice has been in contact with oak...
Wine Information:
Slingshot Winery Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Napa from three different esteemed vineyards. Primarily from the Julianna Vineyard in Pope Valley, this expressive Cab delivers the rich, upfront fruit of the northern Napa vineyard with the darker tones of the two more southerly mountain vineyards (yes, the vineyards make up a large component of another wine in our portfolio that is four times the cost – hint hint). Aged for 22 months in French barrels, 30% new.

You're correct. Half is in Napa County the other half in Lake County, with wineries in both counties.

Our Slingshot Napa Cab comes from my family's Juliana Vineyards located in Pope Valley, part of the Napa Valley appellation. Rutherford is where our business is located which is in the heart of the Napa Valley.

The 2010 Slingshot Napa Valley Cabernet was released in Feb. 2012. Some might say this is a little young but trust me, its drinking great and hits the mark for a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon for under 20 bucks. I hope you enjoy.

James,

Can you let us know how the wine was aged - small or large oak, percentage new, etc? Also, was all the fruit from your vineyard, or were some purchased grapes blended in ? Finally, maybe a little about the selection process for creating the final product. We junkies like this kind of stuff.

boylan wrote:Yeah, I saw that too but the bottle says Napa so they must have too much juice from out of the AVA. Or maybe there is a dogleg in the AVA...

James here from Slingshot Wines:

Pope Valley is part of the Napa Valley AVA. Juliana Vineyards was planted in the 80's and has been a go to source for Napa Valley wineries. In 1999 my father purchased a majority interest in Juliana Vineyards and since then we have taken on a partner, Meryvale Vineyards. In 2008 I decided that I wanted to start my own wine and use the family fruit, rather than selling it to everyone else, and Slingshot was born. The goal has always been simple - craft wines that my friends can afford and bring the quality people expect from the Napa Valley to the masses. For anyone that purchases, I really hope you enjoy Slingshot. Please don't hesitate to contact us directly with any questions you may have.

At the time they were a startup working out of a warehouse buying bulk juice being dumped ala Cameron Hughes.

It would be nice to get some details about how the wine being offered was made/sourced.

James from Slingshot Wines here:

Our first vintage was the 2005 Slingshot Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. I did buy some bulk wine for that year, 50% bulk market and 50% estate. Since then we have moved towards more and more estate fruit. The 2010 Slingshot Cab is 95% estate grown.

you can buy two when each offer is 6 bottles. usually the total is one case. if the offer was four bottles , then you could buy three.

Is that for fairness or to keep their shipping costs down?

I think it is a situational basis, but most often to keep shipping costs down. There have been offers in the past where the max purchases was a case and a half, it just doesn't happen very often.

I believe it's because some of the states that allow direct shipping have a single case max.
So in order to get as many states on the list as possible for each offer they limit single purchases to 1 case.

Everyones answer makes sense, but without knowing the real reason, this one makes the most sense to me. This or it just costs them too much to ship miltiple boxes for only $5.
