“In the entire world there are only a few sounds that bring joy to all but the most jaded. One is the murmur of a kitten purring. Another is the thwack of a well-pitched baseball hitting a perfectly swung bat. And the third is the pop of a cork being pulled from a bottle of wine.” —George Taber

Anybody got anything to say about this wine? Is this a good anytime drinking wine for after work and sitting on the deck?

Is there any wine that isn't? :-)

$194 a case on their website. Seems like a decent deal here.

Added comment: The last offer had lab rat reports...bring them back. I'm buying this because of the last reviews.

I was first sucker.

I got some of this on the last Woot!Off. I have had only the Barbera of these two. I really liked it, but my wife was less taken.

It has a nice mellow fruit front with nice balance. What I liked best was a subtle cinnamon finish. Very unique and tasty.

Definitely ready to drink now and I'd say it has a couple good years left in it if stored well.

No CT drinking notes on the Barbera. The Zin gets a 78, although the note attached to that score calls it a "good day to day house wine".

OK, rat reports in this thread: http://wine.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4705320

One person says that its a good every day drinking wine, a few others comment that the alcohol level makes it a little "hot" so needs to breath.

Thinking about it...

Edit: on second thought, I'll pass. Seems like this is not really very exceptional, so for the price, I can go down to the local wine store and do better.

Following was from the last Woot-off. We're big fans.

I had the Lang from the previous Lang offering a month ago. I didn't have to think twice before ordering this offering.

The wine does benefit from decanting, but can pass through an aerator in a "wine emergency" and be very drinkable.

I am imagining drinking it while sitting on a sun-drenched deck, munching on an aged parm and dark chocolate.

To be even more specific - here is the direct link to the labrat report on the 2007 Lang Zinfandel and here is the labrat report for the 2007 Lang Barbera. There were 4 different wines included previously, with 1 labrat for each.

2007 Lang Wines Amador County Zinfandel – Oakmont Vineyards

The alcohol is strong and hot and the taste is Porty and raisiny, but the finish is dry and spicy on this robust, sturdy Zin. Drink with BBQ ribs.

2007 Lang Wines Amador County Barbera – Oakmont Vineyards

Strong and jammy, with extracted, sweet flavors of blackberries and the cherries and the smoky - vanilla char that tastes like oak. Drink this Rustic wine with simple fare.

You'll spend at least $15 a bottle for any halfway decent Barbera. If you buy 6, that leaves you with $35 to spend for 6 bottles of Zin. Good luck!

Anyone going to the Ohio Wine Dinner w/Scott & Jana Harvey want to split this? I'm willing to make the initial buy and split 8-4, 6-6 or 4-8, whatever works best for the interested party.

Love both varieties, so even though it's a big hit I am in for one.

FWIW they finally fixed the browser right at work; missed first 2 days of the party, so need to catch up anyway...

Hey Dave,

I'd love to split 6 and 6

We wanted to go in but don't need a 12 pack.

I'll second this with the same offer for anyone attending the Family Winemakers event in Del Mar next month.
[edit] offer stands, in for a case.

There was also this previous offering from the winery.

http://wine.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4816366

It looks like the 2007 zin that I really enjoyed (see last note) was from a different location. I'm really hoping this is a similar quality/taste. What I really like about the two zins I've had out of that previous offer (the 2006 and 2007) was they didn't have that pruney/raiseny flavor that some zins have.
