Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

It's not weird how much we love me, we love me because I'm awesome, because I'm so underpriced, because I last forever (hello, ladies...), and because we know what we're looking at -- moi.

I AM THE GREATEST WINE OF ALL.

And by wine he of course means me

When it's good, it's very, very good....
And when it's not (which is most of the time), it's horrid.

Pets - as the growers call it - isn't the same thing as the true Syrah of the Rhone, but it's capable of making an interesting, long-lived wine that can age for 30+ years into velvet. But, little PS is actually made into those wines - now because of fashion, decades ago because it was used to 'stiffen' generic reds.

Concannon in Livermore long made one of the best PS in California, and Napa PS at its best (Ridge York Creek) can be wonderful.

Getting the balance of tannin, alcohol and acidity, and fresh flavors that will not turn portish, is not easy.

So you're saying a poorly made PS will turn portish? Sounds delightful to me...

This wine is only listed as being $40 online, rather than $60, or am I missing something? Seems Woot has a 50% mark up?

Yes you are missing something. The woot offering is for 3 bottles, not one.

I'll go with that! Incidentally, I didn't love Concannon's PSes (meh), but I did find they made some pretty decent other wines at good prices.

Care to list the best PS makers you know rpm? I'm sure it'll differ from my eventual likes, but it'll be a great place to start. The first PS I ever had, a year or so back, was a ridiculously modern 1999 Turley which I loved just for its fruit and velvet!

I'm currently also not so sure about that Ursa PS 06 as the one I tried was very harsh. But I want to believe!

Not likely - portish without the sugar and alcohol is merely raisiny and overripe, hardly pleasant.
