Many discussions among wineries whether QR Codes are back-label bottle worthy. What's your take here?

Is it just as easy to pull up a website or does the instant zap of a QR code make your your brain happier?

I use them often when shopping, especially if a wine is a blend, and the bottle doesn't state what's in it (um, besides wine).

The winery needs to program the code in a useful way. It's not as helpful to me if the code just takes me to their home page, or to the social networking page and reviews; I want it to take me to the processing notes, or tasting notes, or whichever page gives me the most info about the wine.

We have also used it in a casual restaurant for the same reason (shame on us for bringing out the phones during dinner?!).

Twisted Oak makes pretty heavy use of QR codes and it works out pretty well for them. Of course, they've always been really good about having the "geek sheets" readily available. If other wineries implement it in the same way, it can be exceedingly useful. Especially if they don't want to clutter up the back labels with all the technical details because they have a pretty poem or witty remark to state instead (or a little winery info).

Related to this - a fair number of people I know have started a game of putting their phones on the table during a meal. First one to pick up their phone buys.

It is shockingly effective.

With relation to QR codes, I prefer if they lead to practical information - I can always find a facebook page or other social media, I like my info practical.

I'm just hanging out, really.

I concur with the comments so far. If the wineries want to *really* use QR codes to help the consumer, have the code link to a spec sheet for the wine. Linking back to the winery's main site and making me drill down to find info on the wine is too time consuming. I'm in a wine store to buy wine, NOT to surf the web!

Wine store? What does this mean? Seriously, if they don't get it soon, even those of us who are dedicated to supporting local businesses will be doing all of our wine buying on the net.
