Of course now I need to drink 2 bottles before it arrives!!! Luckily, zTByrdz is having a party this weekend, so I can bring one or two there. He's used to it by now.

Someone has to put WD's kids thru college, but why does it have to be me!

Can the infestation of labrats come back now?

Last offer on 2/16/11 was $70 for 3, so this comes out to approximately the same per bottle (give or take a couple of dollars when shipping is factored in). Same vintage.

I drank a bottle on 9/8/11 and remember thinking it needed some more bottle time (or possibly more air time). I didn't take notes, so I don't remember why I thought it, just that I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped.

The 2007 is $38 at the winery.

But there's no 2008 listed.

Searching the internet, I found this: •Wine Spectator gave a rating of 91 out of 100 to the 2008 Saxon Brown Zinfandel Sonoma Valley One Oak.

Just read thru the --5-- pages of comments from the prior offer. Wooters own CT comments and holdings. Lot's of old time wooters chiming in, compared to Corison, and it was a sell-out @ 300 woots. Now Sparky is the first sucker, did mill get in, and I sit with a four digit CC whack from last month.

Sigh, two more.

I was assuming that "One Oak" referred to the vineyard but don't see that listed as one of Saxon Brown's vineyards on their website. Possibly a reference to the cooperage which isn't detailed in the item description? Or just chosen as a name for some other reason?

EDIT: I guess it is the vineyard name after all, I can juuust make out "One Oak Vineyard" on the label in the enlarged product picture.

maybe all the vines are grafted onto the roots of one oak tree?

At first I thought it used to be twin oaks but one got run over by a delorean. Then I remembered those were pines

I will try some, at the risk of making my wife irate. We have been drinking a bit more wine lately , but our space is limited and I do have a bunch of gewurtz on the way.

But its all starting to come together. Last night we finished off a bottle of the wellington, then went to a bottle of something she picked up from the store, and she commented on how much better the Wellington was.

More expensive, more fancy-shmancy grape juice than your average WW offering.

(And it's usually very good stuff!)

Would if I could but I can't so I won't.

If you can, grab as much as possible! You won't regret it.

In inverse and not complete order. Rinfrescante. Pepper Bridge. Saxon Brown. Monkey Prize. Vina Robles. Ty Caton Tytanium (always!). Roshambo. Polyphemus. Donati Family. Poizon. Montinore. Kent Rasumussen. Mumm Napa. Boss Monster. Iron Horse. Albino Rhino. White Zeppelin, Buttonwood Farm, 8-Bit, Ty Caton Racchus, Twas!

Semi-correct answer. While it generally is a higher priced wine, WD has described the black-tie buys as being more in the line of harder to find (especially at a discount) wines that just aren't offered regularly, or special deals. Like in this instance, where only 175 cases were bottled.

I still have some from last offering. From what I remember it was quite oaky with not much forward fruit. I felt it was rather dull (especially considering the price), but perhaps it needs more time in the bottle or maybe I'm just not a fan of the style.

Mike, can you and any others who've had his post us some notes to give a idea of the style? That'd help a lot, as I've no idea if this is like Wellington's, or Sin/Temptation/Redemption, or Haywood, or ...

I purchased this last FEB based on solid recommendations from several Wooters. It was probably the best Zin I've ever tasted. Was surprised how smooth it was despite the high alcohol. It catapulted Zins high up my favorite list, even passing syrahs.

Did I read somewhere the Zinfandel grape is considered one of the only truly American grapes? Could still be this weekend's champagne talking....

Sorry, not quite my level of expertise yet. Which is why I would take my recommendation of "more bottle time" with a few grains of salt.

I do, however, remember waking up with a bad headache, something I never get with red wine. My first reaction was, "This needs to mellow out a bit."

Actually, Zinfandel is the same as the Italian/Croatian Primitivo; grapes similar to Primitivo were grown in that region for centuries. Zinfandel only arrived in the U.S. around 1830, possibly from the Imperial Nursery of Austria, which sourced grapes from Croatia.

Purchased the previous SB offering and it was positively delightful. "SIWBM" actually stands for "in for 1 rather than 2", right? :D

Doing the math, 300 3-packs = 900 bottles = 75 cases. So, that should mean there are only 100 cases left of this stuff, which means only 600 woots at most for this 2-pack. Likely far less than that is actually available to us.

I predict a bouncy button about lunchtime.
