sanity wrote:A great ride today. The air is so clear that riding through Red Rock was like being in the midst of a 3-D viewer. (old folks, remember we had those as kids?) It felt like playing hooky, too, since I have lots to cook and do for tomorrow.

mommadeb, hope you are feeling better.

nurse laura, hey there!

TtheC where are you?

PB, yes, we had a meal very much like getta - usually on Sunday mornings after church. And fried in bacon grease, of course. The 2nd one was a hash made out of chopped over-easy fried eggs, lightly toasted bread pulled apart into pieces, and cooked bacon pulled apart into pieces. Mix altogether in a bowl. Sometimes other things went into the mix (cheese, rarely, ketchup, hot sauce, ham, roast beef, etc.) Maybe this one came about when there wasn't enough variety to make getta.

Cheesecake makers, unite! I'm making my classic cheesecake, and d-dog's Baily's cheesecake today. My friend had us over for dinner last night, she's vegan, and she made a delectable vegan pumpkin mousse cake with graham cracker crust and pecan topping. I normally don't care for pumpkin mouse or cheesecake - this was stellar. She'll be bringing it to the port tasting.

PB, or JOATMON or anyone else, I would like a rec for a very yummy port, on the "dry" side, for out tasting. Under $50 would be preferable. And any ideas for port wine/food pairings are welcomed.

Maybe a Tawny Port? But a Madeira might work better, for a "dry" style.

ddeuddeg & I spent yesterday wrapping gifts for our great nieces and nephews: four little ones five and under. We went to our niece's home for vigilia--she made some pierogi. Not bad for the first time! Present opening time was total chaos! You can't expect little ones to wait for each other to see what they got! No, no, no! Must be all at once! My head was spinning! We got some nice presents and it was fun to spend time with all of them. Then, off to sing a choral prelude and Midnight Mass. Got home around 2:15 AM! Slept in today. It is a quiet day around here. Just the two of us. But then, more family on Monday and Tuesday! Yay! Enjoy!

Merry Christmas to all who are celebrating!

Merry Christmas! The kids hauled in the toys, again. Little craps, they are.

The eggnog cheesecake is delicious! One of the best cheesecakes I've ever made or eaten. Can't wait to try some of the other recipes--ginger white chocolate for my wife's bday, bailey's for my mom's.
