Goodness, it's been an expensive morning already...

I like Ty, but this seems a bit aggressively priced to me.

[Edit: Comment was unclear in retrospect. After seeing 2006 Wellington Victory at $30/bottle, $25/bottle for this mix feels expensive, especially knowing that, given Ty's style, it'll need to be aged for several years before drinking. Of course, that's just an analogy, YMMV, &c.]

My Cellar, totally out of date. Useful, I know.

Via email conversation with Ty, MD should now be available from the winery. WD - can you confirm/deny?

Meaning too discounted because its bad wine??

Is it broke or just fractured?

Not the TyTanium I've heard so much about, but a good 50% discount sampler package and ~20% less than CT values. Great for one like myself that's not yet tried any of Ty's juice. It's time.

Curious what he or she meant by that as well. Could also be that with Racchus and Blitzen as pretty recent "Ty" offerings, newer wooters could think his price point is usually around the $10 buck range, which is very far from the truth. These are not the same. These come from his estate, he is in charge of everything from soil to bottle, and that makes the wines far more special (and pricier) than the two I mentioned above.

I absolutely adore Ty's wines, but just can't justify these at this time. Especially since I plan on putting a good dent in the funds when--or if--the Cavedoni comes around, cough, cough.

I really WANT to buy this, but think I've got some put away. This probably needs to bet put away until at least 2014.

I've never had any of the Ty Caton wines, so what is typically his style? Fruit-forward reds or a more european style? Big and bold out the box or destined for aging?

Love to get some input from anyone who's had his wines before.

If this ships to MD I am totally in for 2. I really coal this to ship to my girlfriends apartment in DC unless I have no other choice. Resident services in her building is a major pain.

Edit/ nice wordfiltering on "do n o t want"

Modern American style, ripe, fruit forward, not a European old-school balanced style. However, it has very zippy acidity, making for an acid balance to the fruit; though with the Brix at harvest, ripe style, and the grapes involved I presume this is due to acidulation. I'd love to hear more from Ty about how he manages this though in case I'm wrong.

His PSs are very tannic young, however, and it seems the sweet spot for the Cabs and Tytanium is about 5-7 years old, but the many fans on this board will give their opinions on this.

Keep in mind....ONLY $5.00 woot shipping on this deal and NO sales tax..Both are a Killer if ordering from the winery...even if 50% off on winery deal! Woot deal is WAY better by far....Only thing is...No choice on the juice you want with woot...What you see is what you get....If it wasn't for the Merlot...I would be in for 2 or 3...NOT A MERLOT LOVER!!

Welcome Ty!!

I have the '09 TyTanium that is aging in the cellar. How are these drinking now?

tornadotj

quality posts: 6 Private Messages tornadotj

These wines are very big, definately not European style wines. I have recently consumed an 06 TyTanium, and I thought it still could use quite a bit more age. I may not open any more of my Ty Catons until 2014, many will be much later than that considering I've gotten a lot of 09 recently.

Found a case of Rockus/Bockus (a woot a month ago that I loved) and paid $26.00 shipping, but got the wine at $12 ea so I didn't mind.

*respectfully steps forward and curtsies before the wine.woot gods*

Would it be possible to please have the vintners automatically include the drinking window for their wines in the rest of the stats at the top of the page? It is a question that gets asked every.single.time. And if we aren't here when it is answered, sometimes we have to sift through several pages of posts to find it.

The 2008 upper bench merlot was great. Went down more like a good cab based blend in my opinion. I wouldn't let the usual merlot stigma stop you on this one.

Unless I am missing something, all of this juice is red...perhaps you meant something different than I discerned?

I'd like to be in, but I've already got a case of the red blend and the QPR on that is the bees knees.

Cellar too full to break the SIWBM. Also made the mistake to commit infanticide on Ty's Petite Syrah that was on here recently, and the tannins were tightly wound up. Drank it before it opened up, but it reminded me a lot of a decent Bordeaux.

In general, I'd say if you're looking to try some Ty, you might want to hold out for the field blend (Ty's Red) to get your feet wet. It only gets better from there since the field blend is the entry point for his wines.

Ty's wines are pretty much a guaranteed QPR that is head and shoulders above the average similar woot offering and a no-brainer when compared with the local grocery store offerings for the same price.

The Syrah was excluded from the sale, so considering it's $42.00 alone, that makes this quite a good deal. Shame their such babies, as I'm wine space challenged.

Well you're right it's not so much of a discount, and Ty's retail prices have steepened in the past few years (due to his popularity it must be said), so the Wellington QPR is probably much higher, but then the Wellington is much more European in style, and it's much easier to sell American fruit-forward wines in the US, especially ones of quality which I gather these are!

The same individual also asks about the window on non-wine items and gets a few laughs from the Wine.Woot noobs -- so don't expect that question to stop. It gets automatically asked even if the window is specified on CT.

lol i think they just put in what the winemaker provides, and then it leaves scope for people to ask it here. woot is a budget store after all... look at the forum technology! 8-)
