How noticeable is is the residual sugar? Doesn't seem like much @ 2.8g/l but just have to ask before I buy a case of this stuff.

Would it be considered wine homicide to use mulling spices with this?

Is Ty on the board? Just curious how he would compare the Racchus to the Blitzen.

I think the reindeer on the label makes it ok to use with mulling spices.

I was telling myself a couple days ago that I needed to get some woot.cellars wine. I'm starting to think woot really does have cameras in people's homes.

Wait Mark, this IS the 09, so is already pre-aged! So I'd say it's probably drinking right now. But he ran out of the Racchus red.. so where did he get this wine?

This from the excellent comparison above, is looking to be very like his effervescent 09 Racchus Red, which was great fun then, and apparently better now, it's hard to pass on this for a fun drinker. Almost certainly, from drinking the 09 Racchus, this will reward aeration/decanting for 45+ minutes!

From wikipedia, on "sweetness of wine":

According to EU regulation 753/2002, the following terms may be used on the labels of table wines and quality wines:
.................... Dry ............ Medium Dry ......Medium ......... Sweet:
Sweetness ... up to 4 g/l ... up to 12 g/l ... up to 45 g/l ..... more than 45 g/l

at 2.8 g/l this should be dry.

Pretty much no hesitation here. In for one!:-)

For those poo-pooing the merlot I expect the young PS in the blend will help to balance everything out. Shipping to the family in NH vs MD because this is something that is meant to be shared!

Looking forward to the commentary on this offer, but already in for one. I've really enjoyed both Racchus blends...

I already have the feeling that I'm going to be sorry that I didn't order 3 when I had the chance, but I can only lift 12 bottles, so have to draw the line somewhere. And there's always the excuse that there is no more room regardless of how much wine I try to drink! Excited about a Ty Caton/Woot Cellars/Holiday red. It's all good.

Indeed, chart is handy! That is one wine spec I have not tried/learned about in any technical capacity.

Heh heh, I think I hold the record for this, getting 48 bottles of Pedroncelli in one woot, before they fixed the form to "one case only" earlier in the year :D

a big pet peeve of mine. In my professional work I straddle between chemical engineers (who generally express by weight (ppmw or %w) and environmental engineers (who tend to use ppmv and %w). Whenever I have editorial control, nothing goes out in units of "ppm" or "%".

Different blend ... and it may have been commissioned by Woot.

Basically, you have to try one to see, but past experience with Woot blends has been about a 1 year wait. Except with the D'ontspille and the whites.

Love Ty's wines and of course all the woot cellars offerings, here's to hoping this one doesn't disappoint.




BTW, Ty if you get on the boards, I'm the dirtbag wooter who handed you his camera for a family photo at your own barrel tasting event last month. Sorry for that! You were the closest person to me and I wasn't thinking.

The tasting was great and my family really enjoyed the wines and the experience.

It's a very similar blend as mentioned above, and the same year. And the inexpensive end of Ty's stuff seems to drink nice and young! So I reckon this may be a pop, decant and drink!

As it happens I've been cellaring the D'Ontspille. Is this an error?
