“In the entire world there are only a few sounds that bring joy to all but the most jaded. One is the murmur of a kitten purring. Another is the thwack of a well-pitched baseball hitting a perfectly swung bat. And the third is the pop of a cork being pulled from a bottle of wine.” —George Taber

This will be the last corkscrew you'll ever need... because by the time this breaks corks will have all been replaced with screwtops! ;-)

Please do not increment my Quality Posts count. 69 is a good place to be. ;-)
MOD: We had to...we just HAD TO...

Does anyone know the quality of this item? will it last and does it really work well for a novice who tears up corks with a traditional corkscrew?

Metrokane is a reputable company with a long line of successful "Rabbit" products. Probably the most successful line of products named "Rabbit" that don't require batteries.

So, as long as you're just looking to open a bottle of wine with your "Rabbit" this is a good choice.

Didn't they just offer a battery powered Rabbit wine opening product on wine.woot?

I like to talk about wine, but I'd rather drink it.

If the foil cutter was integrated in the body around the corkscrew, so that you could remove the foil while the device was over the neck of the bottle, I might be willing to give up the simplicity of a double-hinged wine key.

I like to talk about wine, but I'd rather drink it.

I killed our stand up corkscrew operation a few months ago (something about that whole, "have to cut the foil first" thing, whateves), so I'm hoping this will be a good replacement for the one we bought, literally, at the checkstand of a liquor store while on a trip. Based on that, there is nowhere to go but up!

Amazon price is around $52 bucks. User's rating is around 4 stars.

Not bad...thing I like is that I occasionally run into synthetic corks and this unit is reputed to work well in those situations.

Are you referring to this? If so, it's not the same product.

No, he's talking about this:

Ahh, thanks. An Amazon search of "metrokane jack rabbit" doesn't yield that as a result.

I have this device (albeit not from Woot) and I love it. Speaking as a novice myself, it makes opening bottles almost as fun as drinking the wine inside. (Unless the wine was aged in the aforementioned barrels made from recycled shoes.)

If only it came with a butler to pour the wine as well... My parents have the original Rabbit. They have a 10 year warranty according to the website. NOTICE: not child proof; easy for curious teens to figure out.

Is this superior to the Metrokane Bunny that was sold on woot.com in the past? I've never figured out the difference between the 2 other than this one is more expensive.

This is the Houdini version of the Metrocane vertical corkscrew and its reviews (2) on Amazon are split. In additon, its price on Amazon is about $35.

No, I was referring to what they call "Vertical Rabbit" . It appears to be the same product we have been offered.

The one you mentioned is the original Rabbit. I have gone through 3 or 4 of those, since they first hit the market many years ago. I finally gave up on them due to different problems in spite of the great warranty.

Still have one in the bar that I don't use anymore.

Are you sure? That one doesn't look like the one being sold today -- the lever looks different. Here's a link to the black version of the one you posted. But I don't think that's what's up on Woot today. Still looking.

Spend the money on a nice corkscrew with a two step lever. These things are just a little overkill and more importantly, the feel of the corkscrew going into the cork is a good indicator of whether you might have corkage/spoilage.

It doesn't look exactly the same, but this is the link I've found on Amazon for the closest product. this is the link I've found on Amazon for the closest product. That one has that slight silver rim, though - is the Jack Rabbit a new model, Woot?

Yeah, that one is close, but it doesn't look to be the same item. Different name, as well. I was wondering, like you, if it's a new product -- is this a Wootlaunch?

Almost all the links that came up on a Google search (ok, I didn't look past the PWNIES! or so of results) referred to today's Woot -- I didn't see anything independent of that. (Except for some wiseguy who posted an April Fool's blog about a battery-operated, vibrating Rabbit corkscrew. Ha, ha.) I'm done searching. Would like to see a review or five, but I might take a flier on it.

Sure could have used this while pouring wine at Grapefest this morning!

My boyfriend has this exact one and he loves it. I, on the other hand, still have trouble with it on some bottles, I just don't have the upper body strength needed. So those with weakling wives or girlfriends, you'll just have to open the bottle and pour our wine for us. Yep, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This is the one for sale. It only has 2 reviews. One is favorable and one isn't. I'm gonna skip it.

I'm not saying this couldn't be a slightly re-worked version of the one you posted, but the same thing -- it doesn't seem so.

The item pictured on today's woot does not have that silver band, or the open sides. Moreover, it's got a different name. Other than that, it's identical ;)

If this isn't about a better way to (cork) screw, I don't have a clue. From my powers of observation it presents as an older version of what Metrokane currently sells. You must decide: older & cheaper vs. newer and...you know it: The best things in life are free...so experiment with wine, women and song...and trip the life fantastic!

When something comes on a slow boat from China you don't expect it in a timely manner. How ever this didn't, Woot takes two weeks to ship then it looks like they are using the 3 legged pony express to deliver it. I think Woot has seen the last of me!

Have to say I am a little disappointed in the delivery speed. I've ordered plenty from Woot! and never waited this long for it to even ship. October 11 is the estimated arrival. Too long.

quality posts: 0 Private Messages gh0stb0y

Hasn't been paying attention to this at all after ordering, and quite honestly had just assumed it would arrive in a timely manner. Why would this take nearly 1 month from purchase to arriving? This doesn't make sense at all!
