frodedo wrote:I've had an aeropress for years now and knew that thinkgeek sold it but had never watched the video so I went to watch it.

You can tell that the person that made that video knows nothing about coffee and he also did it incorrectly.

First he microwaved the water inside the plunger so there is no way he knew what the temp was. When he added the water to the coffee it didn't bloom at all so he was either using really old coffee or pre-ground coffee. He then proceeded to plunge the coffee like he was trying to ram a nail through a wall, he should have taken at least 15 seconds from the start to the end of the plunge.

Also if anyone has an aeropress they should look into the "inverted" method, I started using that method a year ago and never went back to the traditional method

I can't comment on all of your critiques about the method in the video, however, there could be a reason he uses the microwave. Perhaps he's at work, and doesn't have another way to heat water.

What I really want to know, though, is are you going to just leave me hanging about the inverted method? You brought it up, but then gave no explanation... you gotta tell me!!

We are so comfortable with the SOURCE of food coming to us... yet, in order to fully partake of the experience of food, we must engage it head-on within its own place of origin... street food in Hong Kong, crispy pig ears in Puerto Rico, jerky bird on the Island -- they deserve recognition without admonition... forsake the barriers that prevent us from enjoying that which we all have to offer.

Sorry for getting Off Topic

I never said they don't have a booming business.
They do produce a very high quality product that I still enjoy. However would Coke have come back after New Coke if Classic didn't taste like the product that made the name famous. I understand what they are doing and have no problem with it. As a consumer who got used to a very consistent and very good product that seemingly over night disappeared with little to no explanation was upsetting.
I still miss the pre 2008 BC.

Mark Prince of CoffeeGeek.com wrote:I also want to just make myself clear in all this low-scale protest about BC... Like others, it's not as much a criticism of the new tastes from the blend over the past few months in of itself - it's not that Black Cat of 2 weeks ago or a month ago was a substandard espresso blend - definitely not!

It was a low-scale protest towards taking a very famous, very influential, and very company-defining blend, and changing its core taste profile, when perhaps a new blend should have been introduced instead with the new taste direction - Black Cat Gold, Bright Cat, or Berry Burst Cat (okay, maybe not lol) - and Black Cat itself remained true to the goal of producing a chocolate / caramel / stout / deep body / low acidity blend that it was born and bred for.

I'm very open minded to this new blend direction, but speaking purely as a consumer that remembers the halcyon days of BC, and BC when it was at its most awesomeness, and even BC when it was good / great (hey all blends have their ups and downs) personally, I'd still like to get back to that BC of choco/caramel/stout/sweet/body that eschewed fruity froo froos (LOL!), and have a new blend, BrightCat or something, that had acidity / fruits introduced, if the company wants that one two punch.

There marketing department also invented the current incarnation of Santa Claus. I realize this is obvious but I was referring to Coca Cola (don't forget the kola nut extract that was mixed with the cocaine) from 1929 to 1985.

"There"? Come on, people, know your language... And Santa "Clause"? Do you mean a syntactic construction containing a subject and predicate and forming part of a sentence or constituting a whole simple sentence? (Oh, yeah, who also delivers presents, right?)

I lived in China for several years (immediately post-Mao). It was difficult for Westerners (John Waynes) to befriend or even gift our hosts. I was not U.S. and I was not Euro, yet life was unambiguously lonely. Until I met...

O.o woot screwed up a big time on bean/groud thing. Man... stop rambling in product description. you are wasting time: yours and ours. Thanks.

The thing that threw me off is that they are giving us only until noon to cancel.

(even though I was expecting beans so I am all right this time)

Love coffee; not a connoisseur. Fail. Bought 2; they apparently will be beyond their prime when I drink them. Will continue to fail while completely enjoying imbibing these delicious sounding blends. Do have a grinder, though not a burr. Another failure. sigh....

To chill/freeze, that is the question. Rhetorical. ;-)

Saving grace? Abhor instant. Not enough, huh? Humor me, I'm old. Unlike the coffee.

Sorry Woot didnt tell me I had a reply for some reason. Here are two videos that show the method, the first one is a pretty good instructional video and the second is a good live demonstration. I don't dilute my aeropress though

Just received mine! Glad I was home when FedEx left it on the front stoop (without even ringing the doorbell)…it's supposed to hit 102° this afternoon, and I don't want 4 lbs. of French roast!

Each bag is hand-labelled "8/22" which I presume means all the beans were roasted two days ago. Alas, I've already consumed more than enough caffeine for one day; tasting shall have to wait.
