Have to love winery posting after a sell-out. Very very impressive. I'm also hoping that means more to come on this weekend?

Bummed I didn't get in in time.

Now too many to list, as I'm too lazy to figure out how to scroll it.
Suffice it to say, my retirement fund suffers, but I enjoy good juice.

richardhod wrote:Indeed, older Spanish wines! The supermarkets in England are practically giving away Gran Reserva 02 and 03 Tempranillos from areas like La Mancha and Jumilla, and they are an amazing steal. The oak has settled into something softer, and there are aged flavours as well as still-vibrant fruit. And they mostly improve over a couple of days in the open bottle!

How would you compare your style of that of a Spanish Gran Reserva, and which region do you like the best? Talking of which, whose wines do you like most in California, our own aside?

Our wines have more fruit than the Gran Reservas because our wines only spend 11 months in barrels. The do not develop that tar, licorice, and anise that some of the Gran Rservas attain, but they do have that silky, yet thin acidity that holds the wine together for so many years.

I drink different wines every night. It keeps it interesting. I love old world. (Rhone and Loire are where it is at for me.) Ironically, I am on the fence about Spain, love the classic Riojas and Riberas, you can keep Priorat and the more modern style coming out these days. For domestic producers I like Flowers, Robert Sinskey, GunBun, Hendry, and the list could go on.

Holy cow that was fast, I'm glad I stayed up to post before bed and decided to nab it, because otherwise I would have been out of luck!

Does WD give us a clue early?

Trying to use the vertical tasting as education, are there any specific differences in the wines you can point to because of the weather, and why that would be, e.g. xx is fruitier because it didn't rain as much. It would be appreciated.

vrthomas wrote:It is done by winery. That is what people are going to tell you. Each winery has to have the license to ship to your state.

However, as I already complained about, I bought the last Truchard offering for this Tempranillo and it was available to NC.

What gives?

I know it is a moot point since the wine is sold out but as far a shipping to NC and NH, I am not quite sure why they are not listed. I know that as a winery we have the permits to ship to these states. I'll have to check the paperwork.

Bummer, bummer, bummer! I take a day off, don't check the weekend offering first thing and see what happens?? I would have soooo been in on this one. Love the Truchard Tempranillo. Hmmm... do I have a bottle left in the stash? Might be time to open it up to add to the wonder of a weekend home alone! But still bummed.

If anyone from the Chicago area also ordered a case and gets the 05 while I get the 06, or vice versa, I would be willing to trade two bottles to give each of us a 4 vintage vertical. Send me a pm after they are delivered if you are interested.

I noticed that shipping is now $7 instead of the $5 last time I wooted. FedEx raise their rates or is it speedier since it's kinda hot out?

I was going to pick this up tonight but it sold out. It's probably for the best. I have nearly 2 cases of wine inbound x_x

Do we have to wait until monday for the next offering? It's not even midday Friday. . . (I sound spoiled)

Shipping can actually be slower, but it's via refrigerated truck to protect the wines, hence the rise in shipping cost.

I agree! It could be a month+ before we actually get this wine... plus, the rats have a duty to post their reports. Just cause it sells out doesn't mean they get off with a free bottle. Darn lousy rats!

I'd be happy to *wootleg* for you though, if you decide you want to go for the whole lot (or split with someone else in MD).

Thanks for the offer Flybranda! Luckily I found a coworker who resides in VA who wanted to split. Glad I moved on this first thing this morning! With the early sell-out I guess I'm going to have to do something productive with my weekend rather than following the forums the entire time...

To the rats who didn't report yet I hope you still will. And make it entertaining so all of us bored wooters can learn more and help pass the time until Monday's offer! :-)

And here I was all excited to crack one of the '05s from the fall offer tonight and do an impromptu lab-rat report since I still need to wait a month for MD shipping to make it possible to be chosen for a real one...suppose I still can though!

Fortunately (I guess) I had trouble going to sleep last night, so I fired up my laptop to do a bit of work until I got drowsy. Decided to see what was going on at wine.woot, and wasted no time going in for one.

I knew right away this would move fast. Since this is a weekend offering I thought it might last for at least a day before selling out, but I decided I couldn't chance it.
