Not to try to talk you into it, but they do have other food there.
Just be sure to keep your eyes on the forum for future events in the Buffalo/WNY area. I was serious about trying to put together a dessert/dessert wine tasting, but we'll be doing something a bit more middle-of-the-road again sooner or later, as well.
Meanwhile, next month there's this. Come and join us. The more, the merrier.

The Finger Lakes are fabulous in all seasons, but Summer and Fall I think are your best bets.
Many things here are seasonal and EVERYTHING is open then. Lots of Harvest events in Sept/Oct and the lakes are great in the summer. Hunt Country does an annual event in the fall...early Oct. that's local food and wine based...lots of fun.

As a plug, we are sponsoring an event on the Seneca Wine Trial June 10-12 where each winery will be pairing a wine with one of our JAVA -GOURMET products...Smokin' Summer Kick Off...you can reach the link via our homepage at www.java-gourmet.com
We are excited and looking forward to it!

Darn you! Seneca is home to many of my favorite wineries, but my wife is due with our first May 24th...

I took a tour in October 2009 and it was a fantastic experience.

Sounds like you only have a month and a half of a guaranteed designated driver! Better take advantage of that...
Congrats! Are you finding out the gender? We just had our first on 1/1/11 and whenever anyone asked if we knew what we were having we would say "hopefully not a puppy" lol

Congratulations!!
Forgive the shameless promotion, but why don't the THREE of you visit us during our 22nd Annual Harvest Festival on Oct. 1-2. Your son or daughter will be 4 months old...a little young for grape-stomping or a barrel-tasting ;-) but a leisurely lunch at a picnic table and horse-drawn wagon ride through the vineyards might be perfect!

Sorry for not responding sooner to all the post on my behalf, work has intruded upon an otherwise perfect weekend. Thanks to all for the numerous replies to my post and all the info and suggestions. I'll take all of it and pay attention to what the regulars here have to say on future offerings and will certainly experiment while dining as also suggested. I've got to catch a flight this evening so this is just a brief thanks to all for helping out a beginner and giving some great insight. Again, thanks all.

Tonight I answer the age-old question: How well does a 2008 Ty's Red go with a skirt steak made with Sicilian Citrus Java Rub?

Tune in later to find out. Unless I'm in a food and wine coma.

I agree with your thoughts on the website.
Ty's red would at least for me overpower anything I put on the plate. I enjoyed it but not with food.

Wow! today we had a locally grown slow-cooked Berkshire pork butt, North Carolina cole slaw, collard greens with uncured bacon, and some baked mac-n-cheese; Southern Cookin' at its best! We enjoyed a few different white wines and an incredible Super-IPA. Unfortunately the Heels lost, but the food was great!

EDIT: But it was 75 here in ATL!

Hi Wooters,
I'll be here until the end of this woot to answer any quetions you might have, but just wanted to say now how much Andy, Jonathan and I have enjoyed sharing the "WootStage" with you all this weekend. It's really been fun. THANKS SO MUCH for your kind comments and your generous patronage. We really hope you enjoy the wines, and PLEASE, if you're ever in our neck of the woods, do stop by to see us at Hunt Country. It would be a real pleasure. Please don't forget to mention you're a Wooter!
Best wishes,
Jim Alsina, Hunt Country Vineyards

My wallet wishes wine.woot would not keep a wine up for a whole weekend. It's hard enough to refrain from clicking that button after a day's worth of comments. If I can make it past the second day, I consider that a victory. And on the third day, I reward myself with a click of the button. Oh, the sweet taste of victory...

Thanks for all the great participation. We'll definitely be stopping by as soon as we're in the neighborhood. It's not that far from Buffalo, so we'll try to make it soon.

Anyone else getting an error when trying to place an order, or are the woot gods just punishing me for waiting so long to decide to buy? :-(

Nope, still not working for me, and I've tried 4 times now over the last half hour. Shot a message to service@woot.com, so hopefully they can help me out. I just would hate to miss out on this one!

Thanks so much for all the winery participation (as well as my fellow wooters)! I knew I was going to buy some as I love dessert wines on special occasions but due to Hunt County Vineyards helpfulness and excitement for their wines I went in for 3! It's great to see people who are so excited about what they make. It's really contagious.

>1000 Woots, not a bad weekend's work!

Hope Woot comes back w/ more FL wines, some Rieslings would be nice!

It was great to see the participation from a winery I enjoyed visiting. It was a struggle for me not to pull the trigger, given the description, my impression of the winery, and the great price here, but the logical part of my brain get going back to the image of the open bottle of 2004 Late Harvest Vignoles, along with other open bottles of dessert wine in my fridge, and I realized that as much as I love dessert wines, in practice I just don't drink these up when I open them. A sad state of affairs.

richardhod wrote:Saw the previous post. Good point re the icewine. The Shadow Canyon was just a bit sweet for me too. I have five bottles left, for someone who likes it a lot (klez..?)
I like a good sweet wine like a Beaumes-de-Venise, with a dessert. But for me a Botrtytis or Eiswein should have that crisp acid backbone to counterpoint the sweetness: that's the whole point. I like to drink them on their own, or - like that rat - with less-sweet things like cheese.

This sounds like such a wine, so I'm sorely tempted. Anyone want to make an offer for the Shadow Canyon? It's tasty but c'est pas mon truc.

I agree with you, Richard. I need the acidity to balance the sweetness or it's just moderately alcoholic syrup to me. (Hence my general dislike for Muscat, both CA and Asti.) I haven't yet tried the Esoterica Viognier or the Shadow Canyon. If I like either of them I'm sure I'd be happy to take a couple off your hands.

Aside - my main beef with Vidal icewine tends to be the lack of acidity in *some* bottlings. I've had much better luck with liking the icewine when tasting Riesling more than any other white grape, and CF more than any other red grape.

2013: 35 bottles. Last wine.woot: Diamond Ridge Cab Franc. Last split: R. Merlo Pinot Noir
2012: 91 bottles, 2011: 92 bottles, 2010: 74 bottles, 2009: 30 bottles, 2008: 3 bottles My CT
