Saxon Brown, Kent Rasmussen and now Welllington!?!

WD -- you're killing us! :-)

It was a Wellington quartet on W.W that got me into wine back in '07. How could I not be in for this?

You may have foiled my attempts at landing Kent's wine, but I'll be damned if I'm getting cut outta Wellington!

(Thanks to the offers for wootlegging last week; unfortunately I was traveling Friday and didn't catch the offers until it was sold out).

Loved my Wellington Red Blend from the Woots past. Really tempted to pull the trigger on this as I am certain it is a great deal and will taste fantastic. Will have to talk to SWMBO.

Great selection.

I recently paired roussanne with oysters & lobster. Went very well together.

Yup.

I'm in for the England Crest Syrah and Merlot. The 2006 England Crest is dark, concentrated, balanced, and absolutely delicious in every way, while I'm interested to see how the 2007 Merlot (an ostensibly much better year for the North Coast) compares to the superb 2006. I picked up the 2008 Roussanne here a while ago, and it was quite good as well, if maybe a bit too "lees-y". I'm also interested to see Peter's take on Sauvignon Blanc and the way in which he does Cabernet Sauvignon.

At an average $12/bottle shipped, this is just an absurd deal.

If you buy one case of wine from a random internet site this year for an average price of less than $12.10 per bottle, make it *this* case.

12 bottles of Wellington for pennies over $12 a bottle? If only I had somewhere to put 12 bottles of Wellington without being drunk when it's delivered.

The worst part is that I am a wine club member and will probably be receiving most of these in their April shipment. And the 06 England Crest Syrah is one of my all time favorite Syrah's that I picked up on Woot! What to do..........I agree with everyone else so far in saying that this is simply mean. (especially if there is an impending woot-off on Tuesday)

In spite of this....and over my misgivings about the SB. There is a bit of story about Wellington SB from me. Each time I have had one, I have woken the next morning with a splitting headache. Something about it does not sit well with me...but it is delicious, don't mistake me.

I may be sent some of these bottles in April, but I don't care...this price is out of this world. Thanks much to Peter and WD! Hop on in!

Not too many to count, but dang. This place has a way of building a cellar for you.

I followed the discussion of "red wine without food on the w00t forum during the weekend. Of particular interest was the Jancis Robinson article (link courtesy of nightghost). I am one of those old-schoolers who usually consume wine with meals, and my winemaking style gravitates in that direction (higher acid, no residual sugar, careful use of oak, etc.). Of these six, the ones I would be more inclined to sip by themselves, or with just a little snack, would be the Zinfandel and the Sauvignon blanc, possibly the Cab. The Merlot is the one wine that really needs food, and probably won't be so popular with the wine without food crowd.

What's the TA on these, Peter?

You know we mostly adore your stuff, but 06 was a hot year. How did you handle it? Syrah can handle anything, bit the Zin is approaching 15%...

Also, how much better is 07 than 06 for the Merlot and Cab?

quality posts: 74 Private Messages worldofjohnboy

So there is no way to value this deal, as Peter states in his voicemail most of these aren't available yet, HOWEVER, I did a rough estimate on the case (substituted vintages where applicable), and my subtotal came to $250 without shipping. For me, this case would cost me about $300 shipped using available vintages.

We do not routinely measure TA. If we do add (or on occasion remove) acid, it is based on taste, not numbers. We had a lot of midsummer heat in 2006, but the weather in the critical months of Sept. and Oct. was just fine.

Hi Peter & WD - another tremendous offer on your amazing wines, thanks! Any idea if New Hampshire will get back onto your "states Wellington can ship to" list? Not that long ago, we in NH were always able to partake in enjoying your life's work. Lately, not so much....

Thanks for any updates you can offer.

Is WD allowed to do this, after last week? Or is this realm utterly lawless?

Hi Peter,

Actually, I remember you said this on the 3/25/10 forum for the 06 Estate Vineyard and England Crest:

SonomaBouliste wrote:Actually, no. Peter Wellington, grower/winemaker here. The EnglandCrest vineyard bottling really needs food to show its best. The acid and tannin levels balance the alcohol. The Estate bottling is the one I would choose if I were just having a glass without dinner. It is more supple, a bit lower in acid and has a softer finish. While there is legal leeway as far as alcohol labeling (+/- 1.0% for wines above 14% abv), the stated alcohols on these bottles is quite accurate.

However, I poured a glass of the England Crest before dinner, planning only to taste it, and ended up enjoying it thoroughly before eating anything. I do like my wines acidic and dry, even without food.

Peter! Welcome :-). Thank you.. We've just finished dinner at go fish in system (EDIT St. Damn Droid autocomplete) Helena after the Harvey do, and tomorrow there will be a visitation to your place in the afternoon! Look forward to a tasting and cellar rearrangement... will you be there?

How was 07 as a vintage for you? 8)

I'll be gone for a couple of hours mid-day, otherwise there.
2007 was one of my favorite years - weather conditions at harvest time were even better than 1994 or 2001. I was blogging regularly on this site at the time, and I imagine you can find the compilation of my blogs that polarbear22 put together somewhere in this site's archives. It includes descriptions (almost blow by blow) of the 2007 harvest.

Bummer. I'd be in for 1 if SWMBO wasn't losing a job on Friday. Alas, we have a trip set up for mid-April so I plan to drop into the Wellington tasting room and try everything I can get my hands on.

Hi Peter & The Woot Crew,

As always with these 12-packs, I love the idea of having 6 types to try, especially as I'm relatively new to learning about individual varietals. I'm intrigued by the Roussanne, which is a name new to me.

Last night after most folks were long to bed, I posted a comment/question about white wines, which I'll repeat here as there are two whites in the offer.

"It's the floral aspect that gets me, which I've always attributed to my allergies to certain flowers which trigger my asthma. I always suspected that had something to do with my distaste for probably all the white wines I've ever had."

Does anyone have any idea of the validity of this suspicion of mine?

By the way, I really dug the Syrahs from your last woot offering, Peter.
