Yes...Enjoy a 'Tasting Room' sized sample of 6 different Donati Family wines, packaged in individual sample bottles (just like the ones you'd get on an airplane or in your hotel mini-bar).

While Donati runs some pretty nice "deals," this one does not seem so good.

If we're building a list of importers (I was just focusing on those that bring in great stuff from Languedoc above), the following should definitely be on the list:
Terry Theise
Bowler
Polaner
Savio Soares

One more for the list; Peter Weygandt. Lots of good Southern French reds.

Any word on how the 07 compares to the 06?

The 06 was supposed to peak in 2-4 years

I've actually only had the 07, not the 06 yet. I thought the 07 was a nice Napa Syrah especially at the price I paid. I'm planning on aging the rest of mine for a few more years.

I got the 07 on WTSO for $15 which included shipping on 4. I wouldn't be surprised if we see it on Woot soon enough for a similar price.

I got two of the 07 from the big Last Bottle sale for $15 each, haven't tried either though. There seems to have been a lot of that that went around, not sure what the production was but there may not be much sitting out there for woot to procure, and honestly I would hope that being woot, might even be able to get us a slightly better deal.

Donati is on Winestyr. Could be a nice deal if they end up offering some of their close out discounts before it expires.

Anybody tried the $20 Brunello at Trader Joe's in the LA area? I'm not sure if it's in the Bay Area or elsewhere, but there was a large display at the Culver City store. I'm wondering if it's a generic $20 "big wine" or something more interesting.

I think the idea is _ok_ since many wineries probably would rather capture these deal customers directly than give them up to a site like Woot or Lot18. The only problem is, the discounts & wineries haven't been good enough yet to make me want to purchase one.

Plus, you have to deal with the often exorbitant winery shipping charges. So you are usually in for at least $100 bucks on one of these deals if you buy the cheaper coupon + shipping. Generally too much to take a risk on an unknown wine.

jonw747 wrote:WTSO has the Solvino 2007 Napa Cabernet for $19.99. Has anyone tried it?

Apparently it was grown in the Rutherford AVA, which I would think makes it a Rutherford cab.

I bought a case, as so far I haven't been disappointed by similar offerings of pedigreed Napa cabs from lesser known vineyards.

When I picked up my shipment, I realized that I actually purchased the 2006 Solovino from WTSO. It was quite good and the same price as the 2007, so I'm jealous of those of you who got in on the 2007 deal.

We popped a bottle of the 2007 already, and it was pretty tannic without the big fruit explosion needed to ignore it. So, enjoy the 2006, I'm planning to keep the 2007 in the cellar for a while.

I know some have retired Lets Pour from their watch list due to the deletion of credits but I thought I would pass something along.

Personally I have never purchased from them but still receive emails, peruse their selection, and spin their wheel of wine.

Ever since they deleted the credits the chances you actually win something on a spin has dramatically increased. I am probably running at a 15% chance of getting at least $5.

Your winnings only stay in your cart for 24 hours. If you happen to win $10, you can only use it on a $45 min. purchase. Not sure about the others. Anyways, just thought I would share.

I went in on this since it'd be nice to have half bottles of decent Sonoma Coast pinot around for when I'd like something good on a weeknight.

Here is a review and stats from Prince of Pinot, mind you it is 2 years old, but some reviews from fall on CT sound like it is still drinking well:

14.1% alc., pH 3.49, 510 cases, $44. From the Petaluma Gap region of the Sonoma Coast. Harvested, vinified and bottled on site. Multiple clones including Pommard, Dijon 115, 123, 667, 777, 828 and Swan selection. The fruit was de-stemmed and fermentations were driven by native yeast. Only free-run wine was included. Aged 10 months in 35% new French oak barrels. · Marvelous nose with complex aromas including strawberries, raspberries, savory spice, and oak vanillin. A medium-bodied wine that is gentle and soft in the mouth with flavorful red cherry and berry fruits enhanced by loamy accents and a tangy finish of moderate length. Drinking perfectly now. Very good. Reviewed June 22, 2010

I bought a few of these today. Half bottles are great for the multi-course dinners I make occasionally for me and hubby. I can splurge on 8 really good half bottles of wine that I don't have to worry about lying around open for too long. It is easier to drink up the excess in the following week.
