Vina Robles has their 2008 Petite Sirah Jardine Vineyard for sale this month for $18.20 a bottle:

http://www.vinarobles.com/wine_store

Use code WMC0112 at checkout to get the discount.

I haven't tested this to see how much shipping is yet, but this wine has gotten good recommendations in the past.

Anyone getting in on the 1987 Louis M. Martini Monte Rosso Cab Sauv on invino?

The latest CT review on this is promising, unfortunately the only other review...not so much:

Tasted by ArtF on 1/7/2010 & rated 94 points: Fill into neck. Still deep burgundy colored with fading on edge. Dark red fruits, leather and stones on nose. Smooth and elegant on palate with blackberry, leather and earth. Can last 5+ if well stored. (595 views) - report issue | favorite author

Tasted by cthoma on 10/29/2005 & rated 82 points: This vintage got rave reviews upon release as one of the best Monte Rosso since 1960s. The rich fruit favors are gone. Color is dark brown. It has good acidity, soft tannins but just not much to the wine. Touch of leather, tobacco on the noise. Disappointing it did not age better. This wine was bought upon release and has been in 55% storage since purchase. (760 views) - report issue | favorite author

I had to pull a bottle from storage to make sure. I purchased 2 bottles of 1987 Louis M Martini Petite Syrah and I would have to say that my views of the wine would match the 2nd comment on this Cab (And for the one review on the Petite Syrah) for that matter. This is from when I opened one bottle in 2008.

**Though** I was in the same boat as that 2nd review there, that it probably spent about half it's time properly cellared. It only takes a few months for a wine to become corked, so both me and that other reviewer probably can't give the best reviews on these wines any how. Like it was said, this wine was given rave reviews originally, and was supposed to keep for a substantial amount of time. We can only hope that the wine they're offering was properly cellared, but in the mean time, take in mind invino's return policy:

Following wine-trade traditions, all bottles seven years or older are purchased at the buyer's risk.

I just called and Van Nuys and Culver City locations are the only ones that have it currently in the LA/OC areas (3 and 2 bottles left respectively). They quoted me the price of $220 though?

I confirmed that it was the 1.5L so I'm not sure why the difference in price. Do you by chance have a product number for your purchase so I can call back and confirm?

Anaba's 2009 Sonoma Coast Pinot is up on Invino today for $19.99 (normally around $30+)

The other Anaba wines I purchased via RLL have really been good values at their price point, plus I'm a sucker for a good Sonoma Coast pinot, so I'm trying this one.

I don't know that I've had an Anjou Cab Franc. My guess is given the warm 2009 vintage, it will be a great value at $11. I'm looking to pick up a select handful of 2009 Chinons, though, so I'm sitting this one out.

I'd say most days you can pass without missing anything--they put up 2 or 3 wines per day. But they occasionally have some interesting imports and domestic deals from "friends" in the Sonoma area.

What I really like now is every few months they have a mass sell-off of the left-over inventory. Popular or deeply discounted stuff usually sells out on its initial offer, but I like cherry picking prior favorites or taking advantage of the wider selection.

Probably the nicest part is they will hold orders and group them into a single shipment if requested. Thus far they have been great at this. I think they physically have the wine and aren't acting as a middle-man like Woot or Lot 18. So they control all shipments.

To add: it is worth it but you really have to cherry-pick. One especially nice thing is that they have "cellar selections" which are often wines from the '80s or '90s at discounts. Think 1990 napa cab for $40. Where else?

I decided to buy it, just because of the name. If nothing else, I feel you can count on it to be a well-made wine, even though PN isn't our favorite.

I've had a better than average hit rate picking styles I know I like. If I bought randomly . . . . results would not be so great. Probably about the same as walking into a decent wine shop and picking out wines of interest, though having the web as a resource (on full screen) helps narrow choices.

I think you need to know what you're buying, or be willing to explore. Of the bottles I've tried, nothing has blown me away, but all were at least good. The 2005 Chinon needed more time in bottle, I think, but was my favourtie so far.

14 oz. cut of free range, grass fed, Certified Black Angus NY Strip, topped with roasted red bell peppers and melted Gorgonzola cheese. Served atop crostini.

Plus one of my 2 bottles of the above wine. Depending on quality, I'll get more. One thing I like about invino: I can buy early, get it in 1 day, evaluate and buy more. (only works because I'm near SF)
