I was kind of thinking this would be nice to have out at Thanksgiving for my 2 buck chuck loving aunt & uncle (although they love to drink your good wine, they don't taste the difference between it and the cheap stuff - sigh). They'll just have to wait until Christmas

We haven't messed with Beaujolais Nouveau in a long time. It's a very light/fresh style that we just didn't enjoy. So, keep in mind that even $2 chuck is a very different animal.

Glad to hear that, because I've been stashing some older cabs away to try out. So far haven't opened any except the 1999 Silverado Vineyards cab, which was excellent.

Here's the vintage cabs I managed to pick up:

1994 Corison Cabernet Sauvignon Magnum
1991 BV Georges de Latour Cabernet Sauvignon
1992 BV Georges de Latour Cabernet Sauvignon
1989 Judd's Hill Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
1985 St. Andrews Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

1996 Buena Vista Carneros Cabernet Sauvignon
1985 Inglenook Cask Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
1988 Dunn Vineyards Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
1994 Hartwell Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
1999 Havens Wine Cellars Napa Valley Bourriquot
1991 Heitz Cellar Trailside Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
1999 Silverado Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Hopefully their not all swill when I open them

Good to hear. I think I've got some of the older Raymonds coming from Invino at some point. Did you decant it at all?

Thanks for the tip! I'm going for the Friuilan whites from Movia and La Castellada. Those are some of the best whites around (sometimes known as "orange" wines) and they're very well suited to my "big red" palate. Plus they are more versatile food-wise than most lighter whites.

I may pick up a cheap Bordeaux and definitely the Tuscan and Moroccan rubs.

It was poured into a decanter (though as much for the fact the waitress couldn't get the cork out in one piece as anything)

My date and I let it rest a couple min and then started drinking it. It was superb from the start and was probably fully open (in my estimate) by about 30 min. My last sip 90 min later was going downhill.

Actually it was a 1989:

Library Collection
Napa Valley
Private Reserve
Cabernet Sauvignon 1989
originally priced at $90.00 and available now for only $24.99.

I missed it too, was tied up on the phone, then checked my email and saw the WTSO alert, but it was gone, sold out in a NY minute!

Wine.com sent me a coupon that is supposedly multi use, but I'm not sure.

Coupon Code: WHCA2001
$10 off $49 (can be $48.99)

If you don't have steward ship, this may not be useful at all.

Already sold out.

I have picked up some of these older wines from Invino's charity fund raiser....I just wonder if their going to taste vile or be something special, it seems you're really taking a risk on these 1980's vintages, most of which are long past their prime.

Wow, thanks for the heads up! I love Pedroncelli zins, and often am finding zin to be the best house wine here, with 4 kids, and lots of pizza, pasta, etc., it works with just about anything, and isn't quite as heavy as a cab.

I have some of the 09 Bushnell vineyard I bought off of Lot18, and it is a really nice wine. Looking forward to trying the 06.

It has. Look at the notes for the 06. Great stuff. No adulteration, pure 100% outstanding Barbera.
The woot equivalent price was $20 plus shipping, with two mountain selection wines. Winery price is $30
IMHO it's possibly his best wine, though probably second to his Michigan Riesling.

I disagree with you re these old cabs from Invino. Well, only wrt the Kent RAsmussen 1987. Its low alcohol (12.x%) and clssically well made. If it's been cellared well it'll be amazing now, and for a few years yet, perhaps. 1987 was an amazing year in Napa according to the tables. I'm intending to keep at least some of my 2007 bottles just as long as this one has been kept.

The syrah's good enough, certainly at that price, if not huge value.
FWIW depending on the year of these, the 06 Claret is fading fast, and the Cabernet's also losing its fruit. They have sufficient heat for me to think they'll not age well into secondary characteristics: not enough tannin structure. But lovely they were/ are.
I know they aren't on sale, but it may help if the other blends are similar age / varietals.

We shall see on the old cabs....I've been buying them, but after reading an article in which about 30 Napa Valley cabs from about 1984-1988 were tasted, and the ones that were predicted during the 1980's to be the crème de la crème, we're mostly terrible, I'm not sure what to expect. A few rose to the top, but most did not, and these were wines that were purchased new directly from the winery and stored properly in a NYC wine collectors collection since purchased upon release.

I very much hope they turn out to be fantastic as I've purchased several:

1989 Judd's Hill Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
1985 St. Andrews Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Thanks for the heads up!! I've been wanting to try this winery for a while, so I went for a case of their 2006 Tal Padre. Recent CT reviews were quite positive, as well as wine.woot comments. After $24 shipping and a donation to the geniuses that run our state into the ground, it came to $131.17, or $10.94/bottle. Not bad for an aged red blend, and with aged Petite Verdot as the star, it might be wonderful (fingers crossed!).

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!
