Anybody have any thoughts/experience with the Longoria pinot on Lot18? The producer seems legit and w/ the voucher madness the wines come out to about $20...

Cinderella Wine (CW) is a subsidiary company of Wine Library. CW took woot's product-a-day scheme, like a lot of these sites have, and offers two wines per day at noon and 9 pm EST. Usually, the offers are pretty nice.

They won't give you the $25 credit until they ship her order. If you click the "Invite Friends" link at the top right, you'll get to a page that shows the history and status of your various invites. It should say she has ordered something and that they'll credit you $25 when it ships towards the bottom half of the page.

Thats CHEAP! priced like the Duke. Maybe inheritance taxes biting. Still, Peter just made (in my estimation) about $40k on he wooting, so perhaps not!
I had to look this up, to be sure I was accurate.
John Wellington died December 29, 2010. Because he died in 2010, there are no estate taxes due. None. Zip.

I'm slightly tempted on the Epiphany PS, but I burn through PS so slowly, and I already have the Esoterica PS ordered from Woot, so I'll probably hold off.

The Wine Spies has an interesting one today. It's the Hook & Ladder 2008 RRV Cab Franc single vineyard.
H&L Cab Franc $20 a bottle
If you buy six bottles and use CABSPY you get free shipping.
H&L has been making the rounds on the deal sites, but I haven't seen this wine pop up yet. I'd like to try one of these, but I'm pretty sure The Wine Spies hate us Texans and won't ship here.

Darn, I wish I had grabbed it when it was here. Hopefully it will come back around.

jmdavidson wrote:If you a choice between the Young or the DeLille, which for two bottles are about the same price, which would you choose?
In this case, I went with what I know rather than trying something new (which is what I usually do). I've never had a DeLille wine but have heard good things about them. The RY is definitely *not* a Napa-like wine in that the style is not that of a "cult cabernet." Having tasted my way through a lot of wineries in Alexander Valley I think it's a pretty good representation of the place. I wouldn't be surprised to hear someone say the same thing about the Chaleur Estate wine from DeLille either, though. I typically found an herbal/minty undertone in Alexander Valley cabs that gave the fruit a "coolness" that I haven't often experienced in wines from Napa, or elsewhere in Sonoma for that matter. Don't get me wrong, the few Scion vintages I've had the opportunity to taste (03, 04, 05) have all been loaded with fruit, but they show enough restraint and elegance that it's not just another fruit bomb.
So what would I choose? Both, if I had the money. Forced into a choice between the two, I'll take the Scion because I like the Robert Young house style and Alexander Valley cabs in general.
If you're interested in Alexander Valley, another winery to check out that focuses on cabernet that has a long history growing grapes (but a relatively short history making wine) is Hawkes.

jmdavidson wrote:The last CT reviewer thought this wine (2006)still had 3-5 years to go for cellaring. Do you think this could be correct?
I think I'll be hanging on to a 2004 that I have for another 3-5 years before drinking. I haven't had the 2006 yet, but if it's true to the house style and the vintage (I think 2006 cali cabs have tended to be a little more backwards and closed for business in youth than either 2005 or 2007, but there are plenty of people out there who know more about that than I...) then I would hold them for at least several years and they should last for 10 to 15. The Scion I had most recently was an 04 and I thought it had 5 or 6 years until it peaked and then maybe another 5 or 6 after that of pleasurable drinking. I just ordered a set of the Lot18 Scions and I'm going to try to keep my hands off of them for at least a year before checking in. I'm definitely planning on holding at least one for quite a long time.
One thought that just occurred to me that I don't often act on is looking at older vintages of a given wine on CT and seeing if there are any more recent reviews of them. That would give you an idea of how a wine tends to age.
Edit: I just followed my own advice. Looked over the notes going back to the 2000 vintage and all of the wines had recent notes that were indicative of wines that are long-lived. Doesn't mean the 2006 wouldn't be enjoyable now with some decanting, but it's a good sign that it'll be even more enjoyable down the road a ways. By the way, I have no financial stake in the sale of Robert Young wines, but perhaps I should submit my last few posts to them and see if I can get a marketing job there...

Also, SWMBO does not get why I keep ordering wines that we should drink years from now. New wine racks keep going up in the basement and she keeps talking SIWBM.
One or two for now, one or two for later. ;-)
*hijack* we seem to both be in Chicago... just realized you had been commenting on the lake county tasting thread... would still like to get something going in Chi-Town again! *end hijack*

Another Washington winery is running a 50% off sale + $5 shipping today. I'm not familiar with their wines, does anyone here have an opinion?
Nicolas Cole Cellars

These wines look fairly well reviewed from the limited CT notes. The cheapest wine is $12.50 a bottle after this discount, so it seems worth a shot.

Thanks. That one's 17.50 with the discount. I might get 1 bottle of each of their cheaper wines and create my own Woot-style mixed 3 pack for $47.50 + $5 shipping.

Just realized this winery is closing up shop:

I wonder if we'll see these wines on an even bigger fire sale elsewhere?
