The only benefit and cost break would be when you compare the shipping costs. Then it might be cheaper through RLL. I haven't had a chance to look in detail yet myself, but may during lunch. I just love Ty's wines.

The combo pack may be an ok deal, but the TyTaniums are $50 + $10 shipping for 1 vs $70 for 2 + $7 shipping on Woot. If you are interested in a number of different Ty wines it may work out since shipping is capped at $10.

Looks like all are about 30% off. If you are local enough you can save plenty of $ by waiting for the semi-annual 50% off sale and pick up at the winery. Most everything gets included on that, but by then you don't know what will still be in stock.

I, for one, can't believe he's already on his 2009. I still am loathe to touch the 2008.

Lucky you!! You can go to the winery!!! I think I am glad I live on the other coast... otherwise I would be one of those poor people with no food, but great wine!!

I am sad. Yesterday I used up the rest of my Lot18 credits on the Twisted Oak Spaniard Duo (that's not the sad part). Today, those Lot18 bastards are offering free shipping until 5pm EST.

Actually, since the TO sale ended last night and therefore isn't a part of the free shipping sale, I'm happy I bought them. Without voucher credits, Lot18 deals are averaging about 30% off winery prices, which isn't all that much. Time to be very selective with my limited wine budget.

Edit: Really? No filter for bastards? The mods are sleeping on the job!

And I'm bummed that I got distracted and forgot to place my order for the Spaniards and use up the last of my credits.
Enjoy it. I guess I'll just have to get more another time, wait for the next vintage, etc, etc. It's not like I truly needed more right now since I still have multiple bottles of it in my cellar.

And I agree with you. I'm starting to be much more selective in my purchases. After I use up the last of my credit, I will probably stop buying from Lot18 unless something really special shows up. I'm still even considering using my credit on the 6 Schott Zwiesel Bordeaux glasses. I don't really need the glasses right now, but effectively getting 6 of those glasses for $35 is a pretty sweet deal.

Back when vouchers were all over the place I got 24 Schott Zwiesel glasses from them for ~$60 out of pocket. They have served me well.
I recommend them.

Wine.com has the Chimmey Rock Elevage for $85. There is a coupon for $40 off making it $45. Shipping is free with your Steward Ship.

You should have received the coupon if you signed up for their email. If you didn't, PM me.

I don't know why wine.com doesn't get as much love as Lot18. Lot18 was my favorite retailer until wine.com came out with their vouchers program. Much, much wider selection. I still have some credits from Lot18 that I couldn't find anything to use them on.

That's a fantastic price for the Elevage. I don't think I got the coupon, and I agree wine.com has some decent deals.

Sorry if dumb question, but does Wine.com offer vouchers all of the time? Or do you have to wait for one of the deal sites to offer a 50% voucher? If the latter, do you set up a google alert so you don't miss them?

I've always been skeptical of Lot18. I'd like them a bit more if I'd been in on their vouchers. They copied others' business model, and in a bid to catch up they threw a bunch of money around. Exactly what I'd expect from the makers of Snooth, which was scraping data from CellarTracker and other sites in order to get at the top of the Google search list.

The shipping issue makes it clear who you are dealing with. These are not wine professionals, but opportunists. Any halfway decent wine retailer will offer a shipping hold until fall. (Sadly, I don't place Woot in that category either because despite summer shipping routines you cannot request a hold.)

I'm still partial to InVino. Those folks are a class act IMHO and will let you consolidate orders until you are ready to ship. I think Lot18 has grabbed a lot of their business as far as producers and customers, but we'll see how long Lot18 actually survives once their capital infusion dries up.

I am not here to defend lot18, but they do advise about this issue:

PLEASE NOTE: If you requested a weather hold prior to checkout, your wine(s) will be held until early Fall when weather permits safe delivery. If you did not request a weather hold, please note that your wine may be shipped via temperature controlled methods, when available, which may help minimize the chance of weather damage. It may take an extra 7-10 days for your wine to arrive. We will email you with tracking information once your wine has shipped. If you would like to make any changes to your order, please email our Member Service team at service@lot18.com within 24 hours of placing your order.

Speaking of Lot 18, they've got the new vintage of a previous Woot offer up today:

2009 Pedroncelli Bushnell Vineyard Dry Creek Zinfandel for $13.99 a bottle

gcdyersb, Lot18 recently added an option on checkout to request a hold till fall. I haven't tried it out yet, so I can't confirm if it works or not. I do agree that Invino customer support is the best though.

Doesn't work very well. I requested a hold until Oct. on wines I was shipping to family in NY and got acknowledgement that they would hold. Then the next week, I got a call from my father asking if I shipped wine to him. And of course they were shipped with the usual cardboard inserts with no cool packs. I let them know and they did offer to ship the wines again in Oct. Fortunately, the wines were cool to the touch so I told them not to worry about it but I won't order again from them until Fall (if I find anything of interest, which hasn't been the case lately).

I do consistently find wines of interest on Invino and order regularly from them. I've never had a problem with them.

It's stuff like this that concerns me about Lot18. I've read threads on different boards and these sorts of stories have been relatively common. I did see their email/letter regarding summer shipping as well. To me, it appeared they tried to rationalize the summer shipping issues by stating importers often abuse wines in even worse ways shipping overseas. OK, true . . . . but that doesn't make it right. I'm not convinced given their position as a sales broker that they have sorted this out fully. They are a middle man, an online store front, and the wine still ships from a winery or other seller.

I guess if we as consumers demand lower prices, then the retailer must cut a corner somewhere. That place is holding inventory for web daily deal sites. So far I've only found "real" wine shops trustworthy in this respect (at the cost of paying more). Invino has done fairly well, not quite perfect, but solid. Others concern me more. I'm glad they make right eventually, but it's a drag to worry that your wine will ship in a good window. And if it doesn't, have to open a bottle to test it.
