Missed it too.. however generally most deals that show up on WTSO end up coming back during the sales. There is a banner up for "April Marathon" so keep an eye out for it to come back!

edit: and sometimes at a lower price!

Yeah, I did that too, to check. But if you go ahead and confirm your city and enter your email address, it takes you to the deal. Their "already a subscriber" thing is broken. It's not that. I definitely got my credits because it came in free this morning (and I went and bought the Quixote, whee).

BUT, my referral link didn't have that weird Purchase: code tacked into it. And many of the other referral links didn't have it either. A few did, including InFrom's, so I think that's what stopped it from going through as an actual referral. I don't have oppsie's anymore to check hers to see if she's got the same problem.

Oh, and by the way, I'm going to clear out the spreadsheet and we can re-use it for the next time a deal like this comes up Seems to be a little easier to follow than the whole "Post whose link you clicked, then post your link, then remember to keep checking it and come back and clear it out when you've got three" thing that just results in a bunch of links out there with no easy way to see whose link we're supposed to be working on.

Some fairly expensive Burgundies up on InVino. I'd probably give one or two a shot, but just moved to a less coastally influenced area. One might even call it a desert! I'll have to look into shipping routes and transit temps--Mojave Desert seems like a likely route. Yikes!

Cabernet Franc: it's not just for blending! It's also for blogging.

Although I buy from (them when I can), and enjoy their vouchers, I'm still annoyed by Lot 18's seeming inability to ship to half the nation. More often than not, they can't ship wines to Tennessee, though I get the same wine from Woot and other web-based sellers, and the winery, itself, ships to Tennessee. On one occasion, when I voiced my frustration to Lot 18, I was told I had revealed to them a 'glitch' in the website, and they did, in fact, ship here. I have to wonder how many other 'glitches' their website may have and how many desired wines I've missed out on as a result.

On the other hand, I certainly don't need any more places to buy wine from. I suppose it helps me maintain my very futile SIWBM efforts.

Awesome! I just went in for two pairs, partly because it sounded interesting, and partly because my last name is Blair, and I figure that someone in my family tree must own the Napa Blair Vineyard. At least in my dreams they do.

With the free LivingSocial voucher I received, this worked out to $13 a bottle shipped.

I have a question about using the Living Social credits on Lot 18, as this will be my first time redeeming them. Specifically this language on the Lot 18 voucher from LivingSocial:

Except where noted in the Fine Print:
Entire value must be used in one visit
Cannot be combined with any other offer or promotion

So is that to say that I have to buy wine in increments of $75, to match the vouchers?

Nope, after redeeming way too many $ in Lot 18 credits, I can say for certain that that does not apply, you can purchase $20, $50, or $100 of wine using that voucher, if you have any left over you can use it for a following purchase.

Have you always wanted to try Cathy Corison's Kronos Cabernet, but it was too expensive?

Gold Medal Wine Club has the 2003 Corison Kronos Cabernet on sale for the next week for $65. Direct from Cathy its $125, so its about half off, which is even better than the woot price of $85(?) last year. They have other wines for sale too (although some have already sold out), which you'll need to consider since the minimum purchase of a particular wine is 3 bottles and the minimum purchase to get the sale price is a case. Buy 2 cases and you get free shipping. The cases don't all have to be Kronos, or even only from their sale stock, but you're not going to be able to fill up your shopping cart too cheaply. Consider ganging up on this one. They say they have less than 5 cases of the Kronos left, so get moving.

The link above is not a signup, I don't get anything for it, and you don't have to join a club to buy it. Just remember me kindly if you happen to have an extra Kronos after this....

Case at hand: Earlier (today or yesterday)on Lot 18, Brian Arden Zinfandel shipped to many states, including Tennessee. Now it only ships to California, Florida, and Minnesota. Website glitch?

EDIT: Website glitch, yes. Following is the response from Lot 18:
Thanks for writing again! As it turns out, we just experienced a technical glitch regarding the Brian Arden brand; for some reason (which we are currently investigating), all of the available states for this winery reset themselves. This is why only three states are available, even though logic would dictate that Brian Arden winery can ship to many more states. Our development team is working furiously to resolve the issue and I will send you additional updates as I get them. We have isolated the glitch and the only affected brand is Brian Arden. Thank you very much for your patience.

So- how many "doesn't ship to your state" notices are real and how many are glitches? This makes twice that I've written Lot 18 and revealed "technical glitches" preventing them from shipping to me. I've never had that happen with any other website. Ever.

Since I'm a complete nerd, I also tried emailing the link from the livingsocial page and it STILL didn't work. Finally, I combed through twitter for non-Lot18 livingsocial referrals. Guess what? Same thing. Can't get past the intro page. Apparently, nobody's getting referral credits for ANYTHING.

I tried the exact same steps and got the exact same results last night. I even tried the email thing also. I had friends lined up to make the purchase off of my wife's link, but none could get to the deal through it.

Do you think this is LivingSocial's way of throttling referral payouts?

I have never had this wine. But, if you go to the JC Cellars website, you will see that all of the Eaglepoint PS always scores high with the wine raters.

FWIW. I ordered 4 bottles of the 2003 Drummer and 4 bottles of the JC Cellars PS; used three vouchers. My out of pocket cost was $66. So, it cost me about $8/bottle for(retail) $480 worth of wine. How I love couponing!

Eaglepoint RAnch's own PS was outstanding, if soft PS. I'm tempted by JC but seeing if somethig else ccomes up too.

That Drummer is also tempting as a half extracted half elegant wine (According to K&L)

I got the Quixote PS vert, as apparently truly fine. But still have $20 left after tax, for my two vouchers plus $10 extra.

What's my best vvalue for the buck if I'm looking for truly outstanding wine?

You could always wait until the next coupon deal comes along and combine your reserve money with that deal. You know another deal will come along soon.

On another note. On Invino,I keep looking at the 2005 Sodaro Private Reserve Estate Blend
It won double gold at the SF International Competition. It has a nice blend: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 20% Petit Verdot, and 5% Malbec. It could be a sleeper. Anyone else looking at this?

Interesting.. perhaps. For such blends I'm looking to France atm.. and also for PN: On Invino, I just closed out the 2006 Mommessin Volnay Santenots 1er Cru, Pinot Noir, Grande Exception as I had some credits to use. What looks like top Burgundy for $15 actual money total is what I call a good deal :D

That wine you mention: I think $70 is way too optimistic for a first ever vintage. Even though 05 was a fine year in Napa. And it's definitely a ripe Napa / Aussie style Cab. $35 may be a fair price only, rather than a great deal IMHO, b ut I'm only inferring this from what I see and educated guess.

RE the Drummer vintage, 03 was probably the most "meh" year in CA this decade. But for the best (Corison...) the wines were still pretty damn good, just not "quite" as good (say 10% less good) as the better years. At least that's how I'd rate the 01-03 magnum vertical we tried at her place! It was nearly as good for most intents and purposes. But other people pick later, and aren't as accomplishes at making good wine...

From a discount point of view, it's 30% off; pretty much in the middle of Lot18's normal discount range. The Mondavi duo ($120 normally $150) was, and the current Chianti Classico ($20 normally $25) is only 20% off list. The Quixote PS ($129/$240) and Long Meadow SB ($50/$85) were around 45%. Extremes like the Drummer ($60/$150) seem to be a bit rarer.

I'd imagine it depends -- as here and the other discount wine sites -- on what type of deal they work out with the winery, what the demand is likely to be, and availability/pricing elsewhere.

And of course, it's only a deal if it's something you want and would likely buy at regular price.

Also, some of the original prices are WAY too optiistic. Like for the Quixote and the Drummer, the actual prices you'll see at other places, and even at the winery, aren'tt as high as they claim. Still, with free or $30 vouchers, it is going to be a deal :D

I agree with you that these speculative prices are what the wineries hope to get, at least based on what they offer either on their websites or in their tasting room. But, that is what is so great about the lot18 coupons. Today I got to order 4 bottles of 2 different wines, all with very positive tasting notes, at a mere $8 per bottle. If they turn out to be winners, great. If they are so-so, well it didn't cost me that much. And certainly they'll be better than the guessing I would have done at the gro.

They also have a few non-riesling offers available, including a Burgundy, Napa and Paso red blends, and a Torrontes. Mix and match 4-6 bottles usually gets you reduced shipping.

Oh, and Gold Medal Wine Club still has the 2003 Corison Kronos for $65 available.
