Glad to hear all the great stuff about this wine. I'm going to bring a bottle of the 07 to my friend's house tomorrow to try. Who knows, WineShopper often brings back the same offers they've done in the past, so it could make a repeat showing.

Don't forget to decant and aerate well.. It's still young. I reckon probably at least an hour!

It's not traditional, but the Meyer Family Port was a Zin and quite good. The Vinito del Finito is a Zin as well, but I haven't tried the bottle of that I have.

The MM zin port is very interesting....not sure I want six, but I can probably offload a few to co-workers....I've been getting them in on splits lately :-)

Agree on both counts. I was lucky enough to grab 12 of Finito; 10 left. They drink quite well, wish I could provide notes, but both times they were shared with guests and all enjoyed. Ditto on the one Meyer I've opened, very tasty. I went in for eight of the MM. but I also have to say that Kent's Esoterica Vermelho Forte is right up there as well an could be my favorite so far, but I haven't tried my Quady or Pedroncelli yet either

The Kents Estoterica Forte was EXCELLENT.

The pedroncelli was ok but not my favorite. It wasn't as smooth and balanced as the KR or the Meyer Family. Maybe it will come together better with some more time in the bottle.

Since we are on the topic on ports, I am sipping on a 2003 Quintessence Banyuls which is mighty tasty. Unfortunately I only bought 3 bottles. I need to stop worrying about space when it comes to ports and ALWAYS order at least 6.

The 2007 vintage of this wine showed up on Garagiste as a "mystery wine" for the same price a while ago. I've got two bottles in my cellar, but I haven't tried it yet.

Here is the Garagiste writeup prior to us knowing which wine it was. He kind of knocks the 2006 WA vintage in this writeup:

What I can tell you:

• This is the brand new release from the top 2007 vintage in Washington State, it is not a cast-off 2006 or 2008.

• In a Mystery Twist, the winery will give us two single-vineyard examples of 2007 Syrah in a random combination (they are packing the cases randomly, but approximately 50/50 split) – you will receive one or the other...or both – no one knows (both are line-priced at retail and receive the same amount of interest from consumers – one is not considered better than the other) - they are doing this to justify the crazy Mystery Wine price to all of their other accounts (see $38.99 comment above) - “Hey, the consumer is taking a chance because they’re not exactly sure which of the two wines they’ll end up with”...what they forget to mention is that both are stellar and both would be equally as sought after (that is where you come out ahead) - sort of like choosing between Beckstoffer and Madrona Ranch Cabernet – I think you’d be pretty happy with either.

• Now the real kicker...the above two-step would be interesting as a Kinko's offer but WAY MORE INTERESTING if you actually get to see the labels. Unfortunately, there was no way they would do that – too much brand integrity to allow it...that is, until this morning. They were finally convinced to let you see the actual labels – no Kinko's label. Wow – a gutsy move on their part.

• Both are top-tier Washington State Syrah vineyards with pedigree and history – they form the backbone of a number or our state’s finest wines.

• Both are normally priced in the $38-45 range.

• To make this clear, both are the winery’s top single vineyard wines and labeled accordingly (exact same wine, label, cork as at the winery tasting room, at retail, etc) – they are not labeled simply as “Syrah” - the bottles are identical to what’s out in the market.

• Both are considered Washington State darlings and have been featured prominently on the top wine lists in the state for a number of years.

• Both are considered “immune” to scores or other – they usually sell out each year before the scores are released (the new 2007s have not been reviewed yet but you can make your own judgment based on the vintage).

• Both are big, rich examples of Syrah with their intent as a showcase of Washington State terroir (even still, the palate impression will leave you satiated, satisfied and stained dark purple – they are not light or lean in any way – completely the opposite).

• Both open up over 12-24 hours and are still drinking well at 48+ hours.

I usually just go to WineBeserkers and check their Garagiste thread. They can usually guess the wine or come pretty close. I've pretty much given up ordering from Garagiste anyhow besides the few bottles I still have sitting at their warehouse.

Yes, it's just a combination of the shipping charges, the long wait for the wine, and getting burned on the super hype of some of his offers.

One really weird quirk is that I've had wine sitting in their warehouse for years now which I paid for years ago, yet they keep choosing to ship me the newer wines I've ordered. So, I think I'm finally going to write them and have them ship the remaining incomplete case and just be done with it.
