I think its a combination of a wine glut with the economy being what it is at this price point.

The market for 87 octane 10% ethanol swill is teetering on what people will pay without lifestyle changes. More and more people at the bus stops. Remember how the prices crashed after it reached about $4.15 here prob $4.50+ in Cali.

Has anyone tried this wine?

OK Im going to try to get throug the labyrinth of posts and work out how many good deals I can curretly get by joining this thing again. I have unlimited email addresses so thats ok.

in the meanwhile,
K&L sells 06 Atlas Peek Napa Cab for $25

and a cheaper version of the Expression (non-vineyard-specific) 44 degrees 2008 for $28. Retail is $35 so not huge deal, but it is almost as highly rated by the experts!

I haven't tried it, but I've been wanting to get my hands on some DeLille Cellars since I moved to WA. It's just too expensive, even if you are in their wine club. I went in for 4 sets and drained half my credits. If you check out their website they have an aging chart that they keep updated. The majority of this wine will be in my cellar until 2020.

Agreed. I looked through that one once. They're probably still making money off that wine at the Groupon prices

re: DeLille Cellars, though, I've tried one of their whites several times. I can't remember anything for tasting notes, but I know it was good juice and had come highly recommended by several people whose tastes I respect. It is definitely a quality winery.

I went to a wine pairing dinner last week and they were serving Five Star Cellars wines from Walla Walla. If you get a chance to try any of them (Cab, Merlot, Syrah, etc.), you won't be disappointed. So, add them to your "list" of Washington wines.

The .01 shipping seems to only be every 3 weeks or so and lines up with a holiday or special occasion.

The Andrew Murray offerrings on RLL actually are fairly interesting and different from AM offerings on other sites recently. Prices seem somewhat reasonable as well averaging about $20/bottle:

Richard,
I believe this offer is for the Atlas Peak White label which is their low end cab. I tried it at Buena Vista and thought it was good but not nearly as distinct as the black label bottles. So I wouldn't expect to much from it.

I haven't had Fritz Cab, but I have had one of their Zins. I remember it being on the fruity side, but was one of my favorite Zins when I first started drinking wine.

Even though I'm not completely excited about the PN, I'll be going in for 2.

Please share why you thought this. I noticed they said to cellar for another 3+ years. I, too, want to try the juice when I get it. So, if I go in on this, I'll drink one and cellar the other.

WTSO currently has the Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port 1999 (92 Points W&S) for $29.99 with free shipping on just one bottle.

Lowest price online I found is $49.99 (shipping extra).

Haven't tried it myself, but looks like a good deal. I would buy it, but I could get $60 in credits on Lot18 for that price.

At this point I am becoming more suspicions about lot18. Every coupon site out there has these offers. Lot18 can't survive discounting ($20 gets you $60) at 60% on already reduced prices. So, what kinds of wines should we expect them to offer since their profit margins will be affected by the couponing? Should we use our credits ASAP? Anyone else thinking like I am?

I agree. They recently received $3M in VC funding. My guess is that they're burning all of it on this type of marketing, and will claim it as "one time startup expenses". So even though they lose money this year, their top line revenue numbers will look great (because they are doing a ton of business with these credits), indicating positive growth potential and making it easier for them to get a second round of funding. A bit of a pyramid scheme on their part, but I assume they think we'll all keep buying after the credits run out.

I suspect this is about building client base and numbers to get winery participation (who really will be the ones with profit cuts, I would guess). Most vouchers are expiring end of May now, and I doubt I will have much difficulty using mine based on what I have seen up so far.

In the next few weeks I expect to see some good wines, not deeply discounted (+/-20% off list). But thats just a WAG from the peanut gallery (me). Maybe post May, deeper discounts to keep peanut gallery (me) going to the site post-voucher.

Agreed.

I actually work for a start-up (in a totally different industry) that's doing something not totally dissimilar. There's lots of VC money out there at the moment, and it makes sense to spend a lot of money on customer acquisition. They are probably thrilled at the sales rates on the vouchers and the number of customers buying for the first time.

Do I expect that future offerings will be tweaked using the learnings from the current campaign? Yes. But are the higher-than-expected acquisition costs going to shut them down within the next six months? Doubtful.

Also, I'd bet that they view the potential customer base in the standard 80/20 fashion - considering how much money I've spent on "discount wine" in the last 12 months (or how much hogfatt has!), paying a few hundred bucks to acquire me as a customer may actually be reasonable.

They may also be betting on the idea that only particularly valuable customers are going to be willing to go through the process of tracking down and purchasing so many vouchers...

I dunno, I can understand that it looks crazy from the outside, but it still makes sense for me - at 60% off, even retail prices remain attractive.

My Cellar, totally out of date. Useful, I know.

Not often I see a deal like this: Premier Cru Santenay, single vineyard. 2005 for $30, 2006 for $25. On that other site, inVino. Seems like a killer deal to me, especially since Santenay was one of thsoe wines that "did it" for me, when I downed a bottle with my family when it was 20 years old...along with a prime rib.

2013: 33 bottles. Last wine.woot: Diamond Ridge Cab Franc. Last split: Scott Harvey Barbera
2012: 91 bottles, 2011: 92 bottles, 2010: 74 bottles, 2009: 30 bottles, 2008: 3 bottles My CT

OK, so about these coupons, if I understand the steps correctly, they are:

•Get an invite to Lot 18 (ok, I’m good there);
•Sign up for Lot 18, via the invite;
•Sign up with, and buy a coupon from, one of the Buy With Me city sites, using a special discount code that may work only once per city (is that true?), otherwise pay $25 per coupon;
•Repeat with as many cities as desired that are offering this same coupon (am not sure whether I need to use a different email for each city, or if that's only if I want to purchase more than 1 coupon per city);
•Load the $60 value (per coupon purchased) into my Lot 18 acct.;
•Spend ASAP. (My Lot 18 inviter will get a bonus when I do? I think?)

I was finding this all so confusing, so if I basically have the gist of it, or if anyone cares to comment, feel free.

Yup. You've got it. A few days ago it was truly insane as one could seemingly buy an unlimited amount of the vouchers from BuyWithMe, but they've now capped it at one voucher per city. You can still accomplish the "unlimited vouchers" deal by creating multiple BuyWithMe accounts.

It is well to remember that there are five reasons for drinking: the arrival of a friend; one's present or future thirst; the excellence of the wine; or any other reason.
