2005 Truchard Tempranillo report: had this last night. awesome wine for the value. silky smooth, well balanced, sweet cherry with some white pepper but a somewhat short finish. Wish I had bought more. Can someone explain what a Woot Off entails? Is it possible that the tuchard, Lonen, and other previous WW offers may show up?

Wow, couldn't disagree with you more on your sentiment. Did the Albino Rhino twice and the D'ONTSPILLE once and have not been disappointed on either, especially for the price per bottle.

I have lots of wines that need to sit for a year+ so these will make great everyday drinkers for me after the bottle shock settles in about a month's time.

I'll split a set with my roommate. I pretty much share Corrado's opinion. Most of the wines have been good-great at this price point after a little bit of extra aging. The Adequate Gift is a great example of a wine that really improved with time in the bottle (also, it's worth noting that not every wine is going to be a magnificent wine and finding good wines at $10 is part of the fun/challenge, especially for those of us without long term cellar capacity).

Hope everyone had a good holiday.

In for a set. Took a 2nd look at the offer page and realized there were three themed subtitles (sub-labels?) on these. Well played, Woot, well played.

The wine wootoffs recently have been a lot like regular wootoffs -- one item at a time, in limited quantities, when one sells out another one appears. Another style (though I don't think we've seen it recently) is when only regular woot is having the wootoff, and there's a detour to wine woot for a while to sell one or more wines.

To the best of my recollection, the wootoff wines (and wine accessories and other tchotkes) are ones that have appeared previously. I believe a Lonen showed up during a recent wootoff. So, you might get lucky.

If you haven't already, you might consider copying your Truchard comments at the end of the old Truchard thread, as they might prove useful to another would-buyer (if there's a next time). Your review made me wish I'd bought some.

Last Wine.Woot-off was October 20th and 21st. Go HERE and go back to those dates to see what was offered.

On a personal note, you can expect anything and everything on the Wine.Woot-offs that have been offered previously. An example that I can think of:

-The 2003 Corison CS two-bottle offer from 2/2010. Offered in both the August 2010 Woot-off and the October one mentioned above.

You will almost always see the Wine Varietal Chart, the hand-blown decanter, and a Vinturi and/or Soiree in the Wine.woot-offs, and pretty much any previous Wine.woot offer (I think even the Black Tie offers) that didn't sell out the first time are likely to make a showing.

Correct, the Lonen (non-reserve) did show up way back in March of 2010: Lonen Woot-off Offer

Since there have been other Woot-offs since that have not offered the Lonen, it is less likely that this will show up again on a Woot-off, but who knows!

EDIT: Didn't realize that Lonen was offered in October of 2010 HERE. It doesn't appear to have sold out, so it may re-appear on a future Wine.Woot-off...

YAY, my first Lab Rat.
Participants: myself, my wife and my brother who has a start up winery which you can find here - http://hellanbackranch.com

Served with cheese and crackers and some buffalo/goat meatballs.
While i have been fretting over what to write,it appears all I need do is to testify to the notes on the front page. Fruit, lots of fruit. Medium body with light aromas. The nose does carry over very nicely to the pallete however which is a good thing.
Well balanced and good mouth feel. At 14.5% the alcohol does cut through just a bit.My wife also detected some hints of cinnamon.
From pop and pour to several hours the wine does soften and open up a bit. We had about a half glass left after 24 hours and did not notice much difference after that.

At 10 bucks a bottle a great bargin and perfect for the obviously intended holiday parties.

A note on the woot label. I have only purcahsed it once (Toothstejnn)and pretty good as I remember. I took a bottle to a Christmas party where everyone brings a bottle. There were 30 or 40 bottle sitting on the bar. Throughout the night I noticed several times where people would pick up the woot bottle look at the label and set it back down without bothering to taste it. At the end of the evening it was still 3/4 full...I guess sometimes the goofy label doesn't help

Worth noting: it seems you can go in for three on this, rather than the usual two max woots. Or at least, I did (sharing with family), along with 9% of all purchasers thus far.

Went in for one. I have enjoyed both Mandolina and Woot Cellars. Humbug has been my favorite holiday blend, with Adequate Gift last.

I understand that L & L could have sourced these grapes from lots of places, but I assumed they were the same used in their Queen of Hearts Cabernet and Mandolina Barbera.

Although they don't currently offer an 07 Barbera on their site, they have an 07 Barbera/Nebbiolo blend, so they had some 07 Barbera on their hands. Per the description, the Barbera added "plum and cranberry flavors to the blend." Seems that the plum component fits.

The 07 Queen of Hearts Cabernet's description isn't very helpful in determining if it is the same in this blend. The site says: "This wine is a blend of several small, quality batches, each picked at the peak of ripeness and flavor. Each lot is carefully nurtured in the barrel for nearly two years, then masterfully blended and bottled on our premises. Enjoy Queen of Hearts Cabernet with beef, lamb, pork and vegetarian cuisine." Which is kind of vague, and hopefully, not a bad sign.

Whatever did go into this, I hope it is good. Looking forward to trying it.

Quasi-random. Mostly the last week-ish of the month: most start on Thursday, though sometimes Wednesday for a mega one, or (I think) Friday for a mini one. Sometimes the wine woot just had a diversion, not a full wootoff. Usually a couple of months apart. I'm surprised there's not been one in November, but then the last one was huge. Expect at least one in December, probably in the next couple of weeks.

On green woot Bundle of Cornucopias comes in the afternoon of the last day of the wootoff, generally, and woot monkeys as the penultimate woot.

Does Sta Ynez count as Santa Barbara regional AVA or something? Because if so, it ain't that or it would say so, I suspect!

Well, I guess it all depends on the type of "corked" or taint that is occuring. Could just be a bad case (that the lab rats happened to get), or it could be the entire lot. Only time will tell with this one. Wine.Woot is always good about refunds/returns so, I am going to be sure to open a bottle when mine arrives to access. (With the orders of 3 bottles or more, I always open one up to test it out anyway.)

Have no fear, even if it is tainted, you will be taken care of.

I got a bad box of Humbug when it was released a year or two ago, and it didn't even occur to me to write back to Woot for a replacement/refund. I wish I would have posted about it.

As an unfortunate result of Humbug, I have been passing on a lot of Woot Cellars' offerings, despite the fact that I enjoyed Monkey Prize, loved Polyphemus and found Triacipedis to be a great summer wine.

Well, if you cellar a bottle for a year, it's presumably too late to ask Woot to help out, but then again, if you get 5 (or 11, or 17) good bottles, it's not a big deal.

The good news: There are a number of ways a bottle of wine can go bad, but jackiecanev2's description does indeed sound as if it was corked - that "wet basement," "skunky," or "gym bag" taste.

One corked bottle is usually just that - i.e. an isolated baddie. It is rare that wine staves become contaminated (otherwise, they'd say the bottle was "staved" instead of "corked"). One corked bottle in a case does not mean that the likelihood of finding another is any higher. And corked bottles are common enough that finding one shouldn't freak anyone out.

I wholeheartedly agree. We'll probably work our way through the half-case quickly over the holidays, and any bad bottles can be rectified with woot (they're extremely good about this; replaced my whole order of triacipedis that arrived completely baked in summer heat with no hesitation). I'm hesitant to order three and shelf a case, but one is fair game and so I'm in; maybe not three but, in nonetheless. My only regret is not getting the SO to go in for three on the Corison, as we were anticipating going in for three on this. Darn budgeting.
