Would this make a decent substitute for the sauv?

Although I love a good Sauv Blanc, especially the Kiwis', this would probably be more popular than an SB.

chipgreen wrote:OK, where were all you locals for the past 4 months while we were advertising the Wooster Winemaker's Dinner with Scott & Jana Harvey?

J/K.... I know Boatman wanted to come but was unable to. You all missed a really fun and educational experience. Enlightening, even! I expect (hope) that Scott & Jana will probably be back again next year as this was their third time at the Wooster Inn and it was a great success, so if you want to read about it for future reference see HERE.

I will be adding my take on the event shortly as I'm sure the others who were in attendance will also do so you may want to keep an eye on the thread for a few days to get a full report.

Anyway, I went in on the Radog Riesling and am willing to share. I'm halfway between Cleveland and Akron so send me a PM if you want some. I'm willing to part with up to 9 bottles but will be giving first dibs to laguar1 and North316 if they're interested.

I'd be interested in two bottles. I'm sure we will be back in the area over the next couple of months.

rjquillin wrote:Well, I was already in, but still wishing to learn a bit of the allure of this Petrol thing and hoping you could comment further.

I did find this link that seems to address the topic quite well, not only from terrior and production aspects, but also wrt to closure types and how they affect TDN levels. For me, a very educational read on the technical aspects.

It appears you did not use screw closure, but is it natural or synthetic cork.

From the link above
Interestingly, according to tests conducted by AWRI, natural cork closures absorb as much as 50% of the TDN found in any wine, while Altec and "One + One" technical corks can remove as much as 70%, and the most absorptive synthetic closures no less than 98%! Screwcaps actually preserve TDN

Interesting. I've read similar articles about the absorption features of the closures. We use a DIAM closure. They are the only thing I'll ever use beside a screwcap. I haven't ever found one bad one. They have all the advantages of cork and none of the downside. The cork is purified with super critical CO2. No oxidation and no TCA.

The petrol is faint in this wine.

In for 1. Time to restock the cellar with dry Riesling for the summer. I usually go for a case of Dr. Loosen, but this sounded good, and priced right. I look forward to trying it.

I was just in the Atlanta area on vacation. That's my hometown.

On a related note I purchased this last time and it just was not my cup of tea (err lass of wine). Nothing bad about it, but I did not enjoy it as I thought I would.

That being said, if anyone is in the Albuquerque area and would like a bottle for free to help them make their decision, send me a message.

paddedrm wrote:Hello community. I’m relatively new to the world of wine. Wine first captured my attention when living abroad in Germany. I tried and enjoyed lots of German Riesling so hopefully I have high expectations. I was hoping someone could explain a little more about the aging of wine. From some of the quick, light research on wiki I learned that Riesling has a potential to be aged for 5 – 30+ years because of its acidity. The level of sweetness also adds to its longevity. This particular vintage was described as being able to be aged for a “few” more years. When I think of a few I think of 3 – 5. That would give it an age of 5 – 10 years. Some of my questions are why is the drinking window so short compared to other Rieslings? What is the range of acid and sugar levels for all wines (norm minimum to maximum)? Thanks.

The aging potential is based on both acidity and sugar plus other qualities of the fruit that are hard to single out. The really long lasting rieslings tend to be those effected by botrytis.

Dan holding some of this vinatge to try over the next 5-7 years and guage how well it does age.

Here is a good article that describes aging factors:
http://www.rieslingreport.com/pdf/RR13-CellaringRiesling.pdf. Note that the experience in the US with ageing Riesling is not as mucha s in Europe and since new world conditions differ, results here may not be exactly the same.

Greg

Should have told you I was in Saratoga Springs.

Wineception.

That made me laugh

Curious - if Wine.Woot can only ever sell a maximum of one case (whether it be 1 order x 12 bottles or 3 orders x 4 bottles), then why wouldn't Wine.Woot always opt for the 3 orders x 4 bottles scenario? For those that want a case they still only pay the $5 for shipping on the order, and it would seem easier for those that wanted less.

Is it the winemaker's preference to do a case?

Just opened a bottle, very nice, easy driving riesling. Very much on the sweet, fruity, peachy, side. Not to acidic or minerally. Not to complex or deep but something anyone would drink on a warm afternoon and enjoy. Like it and it is a good value at this price. Fiancee and I are in for two to serve at our wedding in July.
