Any tasting notes from those who bought this in January?

Well, now, that's a LOT of riesling... Huh. I wonder if this will be one of those deals that's sold out before I get up in the morning?

[Edit: Haha, just saw Mark's comment and realized no one had even made a purchase when I originally commented.

My Cellar, totally out of date. Useful, I know.

Was this sampled by woot staff? Is it past its prime?

I'd be in if it was just a bottle or two. Why does the offer have to be a whole case?

If anyone in the Minneapolis, MN metro wants to split this please message me. Thanks in advance :-)

AGED Riesling to boot! The question is whether this one at the end of its drinking window or not? This varietal can go a very long time if it's made right...

Very tempted! Hoping for more answers before the inevitable sell out by noon;-)

Greetings Wine Wooters! It's great to be back in the woot zone. This is the mother of all Riesling deals. There's not a lot remaining of this luscious nectar from SLH and it's drinking incredibly right now. Happy to answer any questions ; ) Cheers! Dan, Winemaker for Radog

Yet no one has pushed the button ...

Probably because everyone spent way too much on the Wine Woot Off. Yes, that's it.

Welcome!

It's been asked already, but how much longer are these drinkable in your opinion?

Good question. It can easily keep ageing a few more years with 2% RS and crisp acidity. However, I would drink it all between now and Thanksgiving. What's that a couple bottles a month? Goes amazing with Thai dishes ; )

Shucks guys I honestly have no notes that could really help. All I can say is it was really good and everyone who drank it thoroughly enjoyed it.

So lets just say it's good enough to make someone like me (wine foal) consider dropping almost 100 dollars on a single kind of wine filling up the rest of my empty space on my rack.

This Riesling is "off dry" 2.2% RS. It has the acidity to balance with alcohol of 12.5%. Perfect balance. I would say it's medium sweet.

Warm Climate growth area, Santa Lucia 2007 is getting a bit on the ripe side, Even at a 2% Residual sugar this does not have the backbone of a great growing region such as the Cool Climate growth area, Finger lakes of New York or Germany. so heat the wood contact will make this a bigger fuller Riesling, If you buy it now drink over the next year or so and do not store in a warm area. cool is the key here..
Yes I know of what i speak, I have worked in the wine Business over 30 years and Have a degree in Viticulture, Oenology and Wine marketing.
Maybe wine woot should hire a person like me to give fun and interesting facts about there product.. this will make for happier customers down the road.. I hate throwing out wine that has gone bad...
again buy knowing .. not to cellar for long....

Thanks for the post. 2007 was a very cool year in CA and the SLH is one of the coolest ava's. It's in Monterey County and runs along the side of the hills above the valley floor on a twenty two mile long bench, gently sloping and facing south east. The grapes were picked at the very end of October as we waited for the acid to drop. The vineyard is next to the Sleepy Hollow vineyard at the north end of the AVA which is the cooler part as the valley opens up at the north end to the Monterey Bay. from the SLH assoc page "The vines’ elevated locations take full advantage of the morning sunshine before the afternoon maritime breezes cool the vineyards. This climatic combination results in an especially long growing season, which allows the grapes to fully develop and attain maximum varietal potential. Ancient, glacial alluvial soils pair with ocean fog and breezes to create a true Region I climate. Cool weather-loving Burgundia varietals Chardonnay and Pinot Noir flourish here;" http://www.santaluciahighlands.com/index.php/santa-lucia-appellation/?WSDSESSID=9d1d7741e3f2ae82c95e0025ba1cbc1a&/1/

The wine has the ripe flavors and aromatics of a fine Spatlese or Auslese.

That's my favourite breakfast place in Vegas. Finest quiche you'll find , lovely environment, sunny.

How biting is the acid, and how sweet is medium sweet.. Does the acid balance it like in a good German Riesling , or perhaps Alsacien ?

If anyone in Upstate NY wants to split a case, send an email to my woot name at hot mail. I would like to try it and have a few bottles around, mostly for my white wine drinking friends. However, it's hard to justify buying a case, even at this ridiculously low price, based on what I purchased during the wootoff and next several days.

I fear a FEDEX initiated intervention is looming!

As an aside...TT...You can purchase up to three cases??? Thought one case was the max.

Eastcoastmary

quality posts: 3 Private Messages Eastcoastmary

can you really buy 3 cases of this? I thought 1 case was the limit.

@ 3 cases, cost per bottle = $7.64

That's an awful lot of wine to drink in what's left of this wines drinking window...

EDIT: FYI.....
@ 1 case, cost per bottle = $7.92
@ 2 cases, cost per bottle = $7.71

I've often wondered if it was possible to place a "gift" order and separately a personal order? And if so, would the two orders together be limited to 3 or each order separately limited to 3?

Thanks.

The boyfriend likes his wine on the sweeter end of the spectrum and I never have any for him to drink. So with that in mind, and the spectacular price point, I'm in for one.

The answer to the first question is yes, you can place a gift order and a separate personal order. For the second one, since the two orders would be considered different orders, you would have the 3 unit quantity limitation on each order, not on the combined orders.
