merbill wrote:Glad to know you and your son are basically OK. Good thing that didn't happen on slick roads like today. Same thing happened to my wife a few years ago - red light runner T-boned her and totaled the car, but she was OK. Cars are definitely safer than they used to be (just don't tell Loweel that the government had a hand in that).
And the important yet unasked question - were any bottles of precious wine lost in the accident? We assume you always have a case in the trunk, just because you're Sparky.
Puhlease, that's just basic capitalism, if you build cars that kill people there wont' be anyone left to buy cars

Speaking of Port, Twisted Oak posted this simple recipe for Port brownies on their Facebook feed:
Port Brownies!!! (yes, with an 'r')
The blogger uses Twisted Oak Pig Stai (never tried that one), but any Port should work.

I have laid claim to a half-case of Cava already. SIWBM is a sham! HA!

sanity wrote:Thanks! I've posted the recipe several times; I wonder if anyone has made them. PB?
Here's the link to the recipe at Fine Cooking. It's a free recipe so you should have easy access.
The changes I've made: I use salted butter, I often use choco-chips if I'm out of good chocolate, for the ganache. I've also use chocolate port.
It's an easy recipe, done all in one pan.
Thanks! I might try combining the two ideas by using Port in the brownies as posted in the Twisted Oak recipe and using this port glaze on top in your recipe.

Also running around Calistoga this weekend so will probably buy more bottles. It's kinda funny, one of the selling points of the Lodge is the hot springs heated pool and hot tub, forecast is 50's and showers, gonna be interesting.
Hot tub in the rain is the best!

Well, I'm actually thinking hot springs, (onsen to be exact), but hot tubs are close enough.
In the snow is the bestest!

A while ago SB explained to me tannins and the way in which we perceive astringency. I just can't remember which it is: fine tannins or large tannins = astringent? Fine, correct?
Edit?: fine because time allows the tannins to lump together, making the wine smoother. Right?

So, sitting in a hospital room while they check your wife blood pressure even though it wasn't that high is a joy. Thanks preeclampsia! Though I'm sure she's having way less fun. Oh and in-laws are here, that's GREAT for the blood pressure I'm sure.
Ha autocorrect made inlaws flaws...that works too

Sorry to hear about your wife, Bow. Hope that baby boy of yours finishes baking without inducing too much more stress for all involved parties (including the flaws).
Sparky, as noted elsewhere I'm sure glad you and your son are okay.

Currently her blood pressure is better than mine. I'm thinking her doc was just over cautious, which is fine. We have aflac so I see this as one month of free daycare
