This settles it -- I am going to be sitting in meetings tomorrow with the laptop opened to woot.

edit: Any chance we will get to see the MacRostie again?

I have yet to have a problem with this method. It keeps the wine fresh enough til I finish the stuff, usually within a week, otherwise I just end up deglazing a pan with it. and I agree with the Trader Joe's wines - definately better after being open.

And for storing wine...ahh, the benefits of midwest living and basements. Nice, cool, and not too dry. perfect for the wine.

How did I miss the free shipping?? curses.

Thank You WOOT

I ordred wine couple of days back and my gf got it today ... that was way too quick , probably because it was from california and shipped within california, but still awesome service.

That is where the wine usually ships from (wine country direct). I have had multiple wine woots "sit" there for 2-3 days, then suddenly it arrives in houston at 2 am and is out for delivery. ground shipping seems to get updated far less than express. Even though it looks like the wine hasn't moved, the "Scheduled Delivery" date given is probably accurate.

I don't miss the hot days of summer, but i do miss the upgrade from ground shipping ;)

We purchased one of those vacuum sealed food-saver things and purchased as an accessory some wine stoppers. It comes with a little vacuum hose that plugs into the device and the top of the stopper that, when you you activate the food-saver, will suck the air out of the bottle.

They work GREAT. I've kept wine sealed for up to 2 weeks with very little quality/taste degradation.

The food-saver device itself is a little pricey (around a hundred bucks), but since we use it primarily to store/freeze leftover food, the wine benefit was bonus points. That said, I'm sure by now it's more than paid for itself in the amount of wine I haven't had to dump down the sink.

Of course, the only caviat is that you can't use it on sparkling wines or champagnes - it'll suck the bubbles right out of 'em.

This was my first wine.woot purchase as well. Looking forward to many more good deals!

I hope this stuff is better than that swill. In fairness, every Woot wine I've tried has been great, except that Nicholson, which was putrid regardless of how long one would let it breathe.

I caved and went in for 2 on the Parker Station 4some. The free shipping made my decision for me. I will now have way, way, way too much wine in my apartment and some waiting in my office to go home as well.
I really hope that I get invited to some holiday parties so I can off-load some of the bottles I don't love.

Button is bouncing....don't know if it is a malfunction of the servers due to the Woot Off on parent Woot or if this is really about to sell out.....I know I bought 2 (X 4).

Hmmm...if it does sell out, will they put up another wine before "Monday?"

Was it the low price that made this popular? Or did the free shipping somehow inspire purchases? Bar graph shows big surge in sales on Wednesday.

Oh...commenting on suggestions of others....I'd like to see the MacRostie and the Little Vineyards Trio reappear.

Last time there was a sell out we had to wait until the scheduled time for a new wine to be presented. But there was a slip up and we got to see the new wine before it was officially on sale.

I think it was a little bit of both combined with the reputation of wines from Fess Parker.

If no one has mentioned it yet...Storage of un-consumed wine is best done by freezing. YES FREEZING!!! This method is used by wine salespeople for "over the weekend" storage. Freeze it Friday night and thaw in the fridge starting Sunday morning. By Monday morning its ready to go. Fridge is fine for a couple days - otherwise this is the long term solution.

I really doubt that, I was on a business trip to Detroit once, and left 2 bottles of wine in the car while staying at a hotel, when they thawed out they had seperated, and weren't worht crap, or the time to prou down the drain..., besides, wine with the alcohol has to get well below zero to actually freeze, yea that's a only one reason to stay out of Detroit in the winter.

I am almost done with a bottle of Parker Frontier red. It is pretty good, but probably more so since it is 15.5 %. It doesn't have a heavy alcohol-y taste, actually more like vanilla sorbet drenched in a tart cherry and underripe raspberry sauce. Sounds funky, but it is nice!
(If you can't tell, I am not an oenophile, I just tell it like I see it- which I will admit is usually a little out there!)
After tasting the red blend, and getting on woot and seeing the woot-off, and then going to wine.woot and seeing the bouncing button, I had to jump on this woot... It is fate!

check the topics under "what is woot" for the..um... colorful answers in the way only woot can answer. The address label on the box says "must be 21 or older to sign for package" , and "must not be intoxicated at time shipment recieved". How the ups/fedex guy will verify your intoxication, not sure, but they will ask for ID.

this question gets asked a lot in the forums, and yes sometimes the delivery guys screw up and just leave package on doorstep, but there are also many reports of them asking for ID for deliveries to offices and from people obviously over 21.

I am UNABLE to use paypal to purchase wine. Everyone else running into this problem?

Fresh off our hot new forum redesign, our crack coding squad has moved on to an even more momentous change: Woot now accepts PayPal payments! At last, a way to spend all that PayPal cash you made selling those David Hasselhoff German import CDs on eBay, before the IRS starts sniffing around your PayPal account!

Howzit work? Just select the PayPal option in Your Account, or when creating a new account. Then click the link that says “take care of it right now” to set up your PayPal billing agreement. This only needs to be done once. After the agreement is set, you’ll be able to buy stuff here with PayPal as easily as you can with your credit card. You can also wait until you buy something, but we don’t advise it – it takes a minute or two to set up, and you never know when the next rapid-fire Woot event will come along. Since we’d rather not wait around to hear back from your bank while crap is flying off of our shelves, we do not accept e-check payments from Paypal. Your Paypal account must draw funds from your existing balance or be backed by a credit card, dig?

You should know that only one PayPal account can be associated with your Woot account, and if you want to change that account, you’ll have to set up a new billing agreement. For now, you can’t use PayPal to buy Woot wine or any other age-restricted items (not that we sell any other age-restricted items at the moment). Anyway, enough of my chattering – you’ve got a PayPal billing agreement to set up! Godspeed you on your way!

Oh, and we also accept Discover cards now. Whoopee.

you can assume that ANY red wine that is not organic and even some that are will contain sulfites. they are naturally contained in the skin and when red wine is made the skin is left to ferment with the meat of the grape. thus the sulfites are in 99.9% of red wines. here in oregon its not too hard to find sulfite free vino but i'm sure its not an easy thing to find say in kansas. i wish you luck, but remember. unless it SPECIFICALLY says sulfite free, it has them in it.

S.J.

gjackson wrote:I was wondering if the Woot! wines are assumed to contain sulfites? I saw no mention of it in the description. My wife has an allergic reaction to sulfites and it is very difficult to find organic (sulfite-free) wine in the stores near here. When I do find some, the selection is very limited.

Just read about the free shipping code, and it was enough to convince me to buy my 2nd wine.w00t (yeah, $5 was enough to seal it for me). But it's Sold Out!?!

My 1st deal was pretty good, but the wine isn't going to be ready till next year. (The one bottle I *did* drink needed 2 hours in a decanter before it was drinkable, but I can tell it is going to be great in about 6-12 months as it is already working out and building a nice body. )

Just out of curiousity, how many wine.w00ts have sold out? (And I don't count the ones they cram into the w00t-offs, because those *have* to sell out.) I think this is the first wine-w00t sell out i've seen, unless someone jogs my memory.

Winedavid,

Why not give the next winery a couple extra days of selling, especially when all eyes are upon you during the wootoff? I can't see any winery having a problem with opening the floodgates today instead of next week. I'm sure wine.woot hits are exponentially higher yesterday and today...

Just a thought.

this, I believe is the 2nd one, last one was in june.

I ordered (3) figuring that they needed a little more aging. but wanted to taste one now.

It's amazing how long some wines need to age, I had a case of '82 Robert Mondavi Cab Sav. that we recieved for our wedding, tried a bottle every 4 to 6 years, never seemed like it was ok to drink, wasn't finished. Had one last month, and WOW it finally came of age, problem is half the case is now gone, and don't know how long it will stay at this level.

Speaking as a "wednesday spiker"
Low cost +free shipping (plus a reminder to actually check wine.woot) pretty much made the decision for me and I ordered two.

I'm sure I'll catch some rolling eyes from the more sophisticated palates... (wait...eh nvm), but Tradr Joe's is pretty much my single wine source. I don't buy wine over $10 a bottle. $5 is my sweet spot. Now, I've certainly quaffed some swill but the occasional goodie makes it quite worth it (Plus I don't really mind swill).
