Yup, got a steal on the Flyer (boat) for $5 round trip. I used to live part time on the island so making a day of it works pretty well when you can borrow a golf cart and catch up with the locals.

sadly, no. I try to get up there for a day every few months, but its too long a drive from boston to make it a regular event. But if anyone from the w.woot is heading that way, I can always try to make special arrangements.

So, it was time for a new computer. I bought all the parts and put it together. Besides not being able to figure out how to set up the RAID 1, I'm happy with it...

I bought a different wireless N router a couple years ago, and decided, well, might as well set that up too. We could use the greater range and better connection speeds, as there are some areas of our house with a pretty weak signal.

The MacBook air finds the new router just fine, same with MY iPhone. My wife's iPhone--Nope, won't work. My kids' nintendo DSi, nope, won't work. My wife's work computer, nope, won't work. Wakko Talks Faboo!! I don't know why my crap would work, but everyone else's, NOPE! I don't get it. So, I woke up this am to SWMBO squaking at me (at 5:30 in the am so I could go out and shovel, no less), only for it to continue when I got home today. Yes, honey, I really, purposely, made it so only my crap works, and the rest doesn't, because I really enjoy getting squawked at.

So, we are now back to our old wireless network. Seems to work fine. I have no idea why the new router would only work with my crap, and no one elses'...

when did you add your stuff? Before or after you locked it down? Did you hide your network name then try to add stuff? That causes problems for me sometimes. What encryption method are you using? Make sure the dsi can handle it. Wifes iphone the same one as yours or an older one?

Same goddam phone as mine.

DSi(s) see it, just don't connect. I locked it down before adding things...My phone and the macbook found it and logged in just fine. Nothing else would log in and work. Will maybe work on it this weekend. I need something to do that's somewhat manly, as my wife is hosting a bridal shower...

edit, working on a network doesn't seem too manly...will have to do something better than that this weekend.

Ah, but is it truly the same phone? You might want to check to see if she has the same updates on it.

Other possibility is that the DS's and laptop might not have N capability. Or the right encryption set.

encryption is my guess. I'm sure the router sends in g also. Not sure if the iphone is n. Maybe?

All things computer-ish, particularly those involving routers, are inherently mysterious and evil. To me, anyway.

My mom is coming in on Friday, yay! I haven't seen her since Dad's funeral.

In other news, my crazy cat has licked the fur off a spot on her belly. She was wearing a pheromone collar so I took that off, hoping that will help. If not, off to the vet she goes.

Should have asked someone to buy the BuckyBalls if they showed up when I was asleep. I gave some pink ones to my niece for Xmas, and silver ones to the boys (all over 21, including my son) and they loved to play with them.

Another possibility is that you are broadcasting on a frequency that only some of your devices actually work on. There are still many wireless devices that only operate on the 2.4 GHz band (802.11b/g/n) and not on the 5.4 GHz band (802.11a/n). Since n operates on either/both you should check your router to ensure that it's transmitting on 2.4 GHz or (if you got a super-fun router) concurrent dual-band.

Seriously, that makes a ton of sense. I like mine because it broadcasts two bands on 2.4 and two bands on 5.4. I gots lots of networks. Also, you will only get whatever speed your slowest connected device can handle, hence the DSI and phones are on the 2.4 band and the laptop and tablets are on the 5.4 band.
