TIPPR Los Angeles is offering a 10 person hosted wine tasting party at your SoCal home or office for $49 - a $250 value. The key is they bring and let you taste 8 bottles of wine (and you keep the leftovers). Their person pours and answers questions, etc.

From the description:
* You and up to nine friends get to sample eight different bottles of vino in the comfort of your home, or as a fun activity for the office.
* PRP Wine provides a knowledgeable consultant so you'll feel comfortable asking those questions you’ve always wanted answers to, but didn’t want to ask in a restaurant.
* Learn what wines to pair with your favorite foods, and ensure the success of your next dinner party.

Available from LA to San Diego. Wonder if similar deals are coming to other cities?

The link above is for new sign-ups - I get a parsimonious $5 referral credit. TIPPR brought us the first Lot18 credit, beginning that particular feeding frenzy.

The Juslyn Spring Mountain Cab is back on Lot18.com for anyone who's interested. I caved and drank one from the previous offer. Really good stuff.

Can you expand a little on "really good stuff"? I'm considering this offer, but I'm curious as to how it is drinking now. Thanks.

I'm realizing now that the previous offer which I opened the other night was a 2005, not the 2003 currently being offered. That being said, while I wasn't able to take notes on the 2005, I'll say it was definitely young, but as a matter of taste I sometimes prefer that. Very tannic, but deliciously so (again, personal taste) and initially closed off but still very well balanced right off the bat. I aerated it--because I'm lazy--and it definitely opened up to more fruit (again, didn't take notes, so can't say as to what that was). I drank that small pour over about an hour and the end of the glass had opened up significantly with fruit and vanilla.

If the 2003 is anything like the '05, I would imagine it's equally as delicious and probably more ready to drink by most's standards.

I hope this helps somewhat and I'm sorry I couldn't offer something more specific. Next time...

Similar, but not quite. The last offer was the 2005 and was $10 cheaper. Anybody know if the 2003 is better? I laid down the last offer and haven't touched it yet.

Yeah, I think this one will take my final credits at lot18. Ahhh - it was a good ride.

As a nice touch, lot18 is giving you credits when you buy today. $150 gets you $15 in credit and $250 gets you $30. Oh how they keep me hooked in.

I purchased something similar through groupon here in South Florida. I have not used it yet. I purchased before reading up on the company and the company doesn't have great reviews. I suppose I should still subject my friends to the wine tasting. I wont know until I try them out! Plus the guests make the party right????

So let's see... my four bottles of Juslyn came out to ~$220, with tax. Then they gave me a $15 credit, so it ended up being $51/bottle shipped.

But of course I used vouchers, which I purchased at a 58% discount. So... $21.50/bottle.

Man, how do you argue with that?

My Cellar, totally out of date. Useful, I know.

I just used the last of my vouchers as well.
All added up I paid approximately $360 for:

4 2003 Justlyn Spring Mountain Cabernet
2 2005 Justlyn Spring Mountain Cabernet
4 2007 L'Ecole Walla Walla Cabernet
4 2007 DeLille Cellars Chaleur Estate Red
4 2008 Epiphany Inspiration
4 2009 Hook & Ladder Third Alarm Reserve Pinot Noir
24 Schott Zwiesel Tritan Classico Crystal Wine Glasses

That comes out to ~$2.50 per wine glass and $13.50 per Bottle.

$1516 Retail (But who really pays that?)
$911 Lot 18 Discounted Price (40% off retail)
$360 My Price (60% off Lot 18, 76% off retail)

Cheers!

The thing is that Lot 18's best offers are worth buying already, the vouchers made it EASY!
Hmmm $15 voucher coming my way, I'll have to use it in the next 1 cent shipping sale.

Fresno Groupon which was posted in Deals.woot today has $75 on Wine Insiders for $25. Not sure about their wines but at least one person in the Wine Clubs thread belongs to several of their clubs (I don't think you need to be a part of their club to purchase wine from them).

saw this WTSO offering as well and it piqued my interest.
i haven't had any of his wine-- all the regular wooters seem to be big fans of Ty Caton, but that description of "black olive" flavors scares me a little...

on the other hand, seems cheap!

I haven't had his merlot, but if you like well balanced, fruit-centered wines, it's a no-brainer... I would put it in the cellar for a year or three...
I horde my Wellingtons for me, SWMBO and others who are more into wine, but I pour my Tys for the world and the world loves them!

If it helps, I just polished off a bottle of his 2008 Upper Bench Merlot yesterday. I wrote:

"Day 1: Ruby color, red edges. Nose vibrant with red fruit. Equal earth and fruit on the palate, somewhat sour. Noticeable but not overpowering tannins. The wine strikes me as well-crafted.

Day 2: After a day open (albeit vacuum-sealed), somehow this has really improved for me - the sourness has smoothed out, the mouthfeel has rounded, the fruit is more forward - enough to bump the score from 85 to 88. That's a very unusual change for me."

My Cellar, totally out of date. Useful, I know.
