I grew up in the greater San Diego area (lived in Carlsbad, Encinitas, Leucadia, Cardiff, Del Mar, Solana Beach (yeah, we moved a lot)); but I've been in the Bay Area for the past 15 years.

I'll be staying in Vista while I'm down. Is there a good wine bar somewhere along the 5? That could be a place to meet for those who are around.

The 22nd is the Playford Ball for me, so that's out.

By the way, my b-day party has just been relocated to August 15th. I'm in Lakewood - near Long Beach - off the 605 freeway. I've even been given a theme "Luxury Cruise on the SS Geburtstag".

They are in Carlsbad. I can offer a couch for Friday night if you want (in Fullerton) but I'm more than likely staying in the Carlsbad area Saturday night. I have a tendency to stay up all night when MW and MWo are involved so no coming back to Fullerton for me.

Actually this should be #11 - I skipped to 12 for Doc O's visit.

I may actually be able to make this one, and by Aug. 22 I will need such a gathering.

Now, as far as themes are concerned, seeing as Joanne is coming from the North to visit us, how about a "Northern Exposure" theme. Only I don't mean Northern California in this case. How about nothing but wines from farther North like Washington, Oregon, and even Idaho if someone wants?

No need to create a separate thread. I say just update the first post in this thread.

And don't worry about our "hosts"...they never take charge in these types of matters. Last thing MW and MWo want to do is keep a thread up to date. Which doesn't take away from the fact that they are opening up their lovely home (once again) to a bunch of drunks/wine enthusiasts (once again).

I put 5pm. I like to start a little earlier because with the 5 month old and the 3 year old we have to get up early. I can adjust if necessary.

I have a thing for sparkling water. I always bring my own. So since you're in charge of water I vote for sparkling. Unflavored. :D

I'm probably a no. I'm actually in Carlsbad right boe on a little vacation, but that weekend is less than a month from my comps. I should be at the library every free hour I have once I get home. I'm soooooo scared!

Yes, let's stick w/ the hearty appetizers that we normally do. And Sparky, if you're going to bring a pizza again, bring the whole pizza and not a half eaten one.

Also .. how long a drive from there to Dodger Stadium? Mapquest says it's just over an hour from Carlsbad, but I'm looking for a realistic time frame? Anyone interested in going to the Cubs/Dodgers game on Sunday? Or maybe even Friday night?

It takes a good hour to get to Dodger Stadium from my house and I'm in OC (stupid always around traffic). You're looking at 2 1/2 to 3 hours from Carlsbad. Sadly I'm a no go for the game but it does sound fun.

Hi All, Sorry for being MIA. We are still living out of boxes. Luckily, we finally found the kids! True to form, the wine was the first thing to go in the house and safely stowed in our new 50 bottle wine fridge The rest are in converted refrigerators (2 of them!) in Nostrom0's airplane hangar until he can get the home cellar going. The rest we just chugged.

Put us down for a solid maybe. I miss my peeps and desperately need lots and lots of wine. I'll bring celery with cream cheese stuffing and Chateau St. Michelle Riesling (one of my all time favs) from Washington.
