It seems there are more than a few wine.wooters in the Virginia / DC area. Is anyone interested in trying to do a tasting or gathering? I know folks this way tend to be awfully busy (especially you folks who are actually IN DC), but I thought I'd throw the question out and see what bites.

Hey, this sounds like a great idea! Count me in. Does anyone have any suggestions for dates or locations?

My schedule is busy to say the least, but...I'd definitely be up for it.

If it would work for my schedule I would love to come up from Blacksburg and work in some time with friends up there (and shopping of course!)

I'm in Philadelphia, but my folks are in NoVA. I'd schedule a visit around one of these if it were a weekend or so.

I'm happy to host on 10/19-10/20 or 10/26-27. I live in VA Square in Arlington. WD can send the tasting samples or other goodies to me :-D

Well, it would be for consumption at the tasting... and since I live right near a metro (literally 5 mins from Metro door to my front door), we can all drink quite a bit

L -- thanks for offering to host! I must confess that after I posted the question without a clear plan of where this event could take place.

Metro proximity is nice, though I am still far enough out that the metro would not get me all the way (Gainesville). Others, too, seem to be interested from outside of the DC area; but for those within the Metro range that is very cool.

I am sure glasses will not be a problem for folks. How should we arrange the rest?

Depending on the number of people, we could each bring a bottle for tasting (wine.woot offerings, of course). Since I am sure there are varying levels of purchasing history we should post what we are offering to bring to ensure we get do bring duplicates, nor something that everyone has already tried (unless it is a popular choice to serve as a control).

(and having said that, I'll need to check my cellar at home to know what I can offer to bring )

Wow! I didn't realize there were so many of us! I'm down in Stafford. While I can't make an October weekend (i'm out of town much of the month), would love to get together a little later on. My cellar is bare, but I'll be happy to do some catering. I make some tasty pinwheel thingies and a mean chicken satay. -CJ

OK, turns out October is not going to work for me. Loweel suggested the weekend of 10/20, but there has not been much response to that date. I wonder if we need to pick a date with more lead time (at least for the first of these) in order to get a good turnout.

10/20 would be a great date for me. But put it on a weekend and not Thanksgiving week (either end).

I'll bring my own glass.

I can't commit yet, but the weekend of October 20th would work for me, too. Doing it on a Friday would be hard for me (From Richmond) and others who would be coming from out of town...If the location were near a hotel that would be ideal, btw, since i doubt I'd drive back to Richmond that night...

There at least 2 hotels within 0.5 miles of my place.

I can basically do whenever -- 10/20 or 11/3? I want to get as much turnout as possible, so I guess just post and say (if you haven't already) if one of those WILL NOT work for you.

For me, the 11/3 date won't work between those two...

Neither weekend works for me. There's a chance I can make 10/20 work, but I wouldn't count on it. 11/3 definitely out for me.

Nov isn't a good month for me, other than the first weekend. 2nd weekend I'm going to Cali, and the 2nd and 3rd border Thanksgiving.

10/20 works for me, I can't commit to any time in November - too many plans up in the air around Thanksgiving, first three weekends of December would work, however.

I have three bottles of Polyphemus coming and a smattering of other Woot offerings. I generally don't buy for long term holding since my space is limited so my selections are pretty recent, except for the three bottles of Monkey Prize I still have ;)

Either the Tatria (which Nallie keeps raving about, right?) or the Mr. Riggs S-V would be my preferences I'll open just about anything but the Chateau Villemaurines or Polyphemus... I'd open the '90 Petite I have, but I want to wait a few more years to make sure it's out of the dumb phase.

No pickup is necessary, as you can walk from the metro exit to my front door in less than 5 mins. The DC2NY bus lets you off at 2 places, one of which (The 14th st. stop -- http://www.dc2ny.com/main.aspx?fi=14) is right near the McPherson square station of the Orange Line of the metro. From there, there can be up to 20 mins of waiting for the next train, but once you're on, it's about 13 mins to my stop, and from there, a 5 min walk to my house. I can give you additional details if you need them.

I will bring a couple of bottles to choose from including a Highway 12 in case there are duplicates.

My brother ("Thatguy314") -- not that active, but posts occasionally, will also be there. So we are up to 5. I emailed Marissa of Hahn ("DCRooster" from when they were selling), but she hasn't gotten back to me yet. I will keep posting with additional info.

I also have some friends who like wine who might show up later w/ bottles of their own, but they won't be included in the talley or get any of the woot goodies. And feel free to bring SO/gf/bf/DF/DH/DW ... just as long as you have stemware for them too!

Y'all are killin' me! I've got a major committment that daytime! Has L. set a time? If so, I might be able to swing up after 7pm. I'll have to go back and check the Armida notes, but I can bring the Sauv Blanc or the Chard (depending on the guidance from Armida - I think they said either one is good now). Got to have some blondes amid the red-heads!

EDIT: Just checked the blog, and Jessica from Armida said next 3 years on the Sauv Blanc and 5 years on the Chard. So, you've got a choice!

I vote for SB We don't have a starting time yet, but I don't see any problem with starting at 6 or 7, so you can make most of it.

Unfortunately I will be at a wedding the weekend of 10/20 but just wanted to pipe up to say that I also live in Arlington and would love to attend such events in the future! Hope you all have a blast!
