Given the choice of the two, I'd say it's more on the fruity end of the spectrum. A portion of the blend did go through ML (which is what contributes the butter flavor) but it was more to richen the mouth feel than to provide any overtly "buttery" flavor.

Thanks for posting the coupon. I am sure I will forget. I wanted whites but now I bought the damn Pinots. I hate this thing called a budget!

I did however get to try the 2004 Claret. It was pretty nice. Very light tasting. Now i need to find the 2005 to compare.

I still am not very good at placing all the different flavors and smells. Any way to teach your nose and tastebuds to pick out each flavor/taste/smell?

You can get the 05 at total wine in Boca for $10.47 a bottle.

Uh oh. Don, I hope you are not saying the 2001 Meritage will soon start to decline. I still have plenty and was hoping it would be good for several more years!

Not at all. I think it will last quite a few more years. Of course, aging wines is a personal thing but I wouldn't start thinking about a cellar sale until 2015 or so.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat (local paper) does a 10 year retrospective tasting of Napa and Sonoma Cabs and blends every year and our Mosaic has finished in the top 10 every year since they started (I think 1992 was the first vintage they tasted) and some years has been in the top 3.

So, enjoy it at your leisure.

Great to hear that, Don.

I'm here too - not to mention my snooty in-laws drinking this stuff. Just got back from a 'tasting' in a far away place in Arkansas.

My problem is learning how to know what I want. I drink Coors, Bud sux and Millers is trash! I Like a jug of Carlo Rossin now & then but damn them little bottles W00T have are. . . . well "LITTLE!"!

Anybody help? I want to support W00T!

Good point, though so far the new wine wooters seem to appreciate (for the most part) the difference in forum style (though I must admit I got a good chuckle out of UB40). I myself love this place; it is the only forum on the internet that I read on a daily basis--and thanks to the regulars and winery postings, I'm always learning everytime I log on. Used to love the regular woot, but quite honestly, hardly notice it at all now.

Thank you for a good laugh after a day of taking care of my 3 year old twins who are sick. They finished the day by throwing up on me. Its nice to come down to the computer and find a little slice of civility (and some humor)

Also, for those interested, I found some decent wood wine cubes at Pier 1 today marked 75% off. Each one holds 2 cases and markdown price was only $24.50. Two of the stores by me had some in stock today.

For wine.woot offerings, this is about as good as it gets for folks who scoff at the notion of paying more than $15 for a bottle of wine. Whites tend to be more approachable and this sounds like a great Chardonnay to start with. The SB actually sounds pretty dry, which is right up my alley, but may be a little too 'serious' for the casual wine drinker, but for $7.50 a bottle is worth trying.

You can always 'gift' the other two bottles if you don't like it!

Many have written concerning the value of wine rating numbers and tasting notes. What we really want is a guide to finding the wines that most appeal to us, This can be frustrating because there are of course thousands of wines available and we have so little time here on earth to taste them. We don’t have to find all the good wines, only a relative few, since a few is really all that we have time to enjoy. (One bottle a day is usually my limit!) I have found a number of wines that I really enjoy by talking to knowledgeable sommeliers or servers at restaurants. You usually can tell how knowledgeable they are by asking why they recommend a specific bottle. Drinking the bottle throughout the meal I have a pretty good idea if I like it. I really don’t care how RP or any one else rates it. If I decide that the wine is worth getting I check the local wine shop, when they don’t have it I go online and can usually buy direct from the winery. I have found a number of wines this way that I never would have tried. One could do the same by consulting a good salesperson at a reputable wine shop, bring the bottle home, enjoy, and take notes. Making a few notes is useful, since for me, a short pencil is better than a long memory.

The key is finding someone to make a well-reasoned recommendation after discussing your likes and dislikes. I have also found a wealth of information on this forum.

I'm on the fence on this one. The price certainly is right, but my question is this: as a 100% red wine drinker, I've only once tasted a white that I liked (at a tasting at Spec's) so I bought a bottle and when I opened it, it was awful. I think it had gone bad but I have no way of knowing if it was the wrong temperature or if I was just in a weird mood when I tried it the first time. Every other white I've tried has not been to my liking, but I just KNOW so many of you who love whites too can't all be wrong. So in your opinions, is this a good set to buy to try to improve my taste for whites? I would appreciate any feedback

Thanks alll!

re: illinois laws

Just happened to see an article today regarding proposed changes in Illinois. From what I can tell, the proposed legislation would still allow shipments but would limt you to 12 cases per year.

Yo, Lil, how's San Diego?

I'm on the fence largely because I have a really narrow range of Chardonnay's that I like; Parker Station was probably in my Top 5 favorite Chards.

I also really like Sauvignon Blanc and the dryness of this is enticing. So far, I know that I really like NZ & Aussie SBs for their OMG grapefruit on the nose. Because of woot's RAMPANT discrimination against white wine, I really haven't had a lot of 'decent' west coast SBs, so I'm tempted to bite on a single woot this week (thus breaking a winechurch commandment).

Wow... considering all the wonderful things I've heard about that wine, that's quite an offer! I actually looked for it at Specs a while back and they said they don't carry it, but I would love to try it! I'm actually in town every weekend... Friday night to Tuesday morning.

See? This is why I LUUUUV wine.woot! :D

Uh oh, I think you'd better bite, Corrado. I know how many people lurk in the shadows waiting for your blessing before they decide to woot :p Thank you for the suggestions... I'll have to take this to my friend at Specs and see what he recommends. Specs is the bestest, besides wine.woot, of course

San Diego is fantabulous! The weather is perfect, as always, and I rented a convertible for the week. Too bad I'm not staying the weekend.

I did notice a Bevmo right around the corner from my hotel. It seems familiar to me, as though I might have heard the name on this site a few times. Anyone know the scoop on that place?

Don't think I haven't seen your "spamming" (your words, not mine!) about your project before. I have had the best intentions of building my own, but life keeps getting in the way. These were too cheap to pass up and a BIG upgrade from my styrofoam collection. I'm hoping to build some racks this summer, but these will do nicely for now.

I agree! I think that half the fun of wine is finding the right pairing. Although I know many people lean toward a Pinot Grigio with shell fish, personally I think that a simple scallop dish can really make some of the notes in a SB come alive...

JFrink

Was going to be in for one, and then I remembered that we have a baptism coming up and most people will be drinking white at the party after. Much cooler to have wine "flown in" from California for your daughter's baptism than to just pick it up at the grocer's. And at $7.50 a pop, how can you not?

In for two.

Very tempted to jump at this deal, especially with the APRILWINE coupon, but since I'm more a fan of the sweeter wines I'm thinking of holding off. Consider this my vote for a Riesling!

I'm going to WOOT this. I just haven't decided yet if it's going to be one or two.

It is getting a bit late in the year for us on the East coast to be shipping West coast wines, so this may be my last WINEWOOT for a while.
I'm planning on purchasing a small wine cooler. Does anyone have an Avanti ewc28 or a wc492d ?? I seem to be torn as to whether I go with the thermoelectric or the compressor model. They both have their pro's and con's. I'm a little curious about how much more the thermo unit will cost to run, but most important is how they perform and what kind of lifespan they have. If anyone has experience with either or both of these models please leave me some feed-back on the forum WOOT Forum Coolers?

If this was a red for twice as much with half the support you would probably still be in. I say jump. Winedavid has even given his blessings of this juice.

I thought I was in the clear. I looked at the new wine woot at precisely 11:00pm mountain time, as I do every Sunday night, having bought almost all the wine woots in recent memory, and said to myself "oh, good, it's whites this week, so I can finally take a week off."

Then, the winemaker and everyone started talking, and these started sounding like some really good whites at a really good price.

Then, you threw in the free shipping code!

Darn you, woot! Can't I even get one week off??!!!

So, I'm in......again.

Thank you for the advice, Jennifer! I'll have to check out at least one or two of those places before I go. The only people I know here are my aunt and uncle who don't drink, so a wine bar sounds perfect for after work! I wish I was here longer, but unfortunately I arrived today and I fly home on Friday afternoon.

First time posting, but couldn't resist not doing this for the cost. When you've got a tight wallet, four bottles for $30 is a good deal, especially with 86+ ratings!

List of woots:

  • Monkey Prize Cabernet Saugingon - 200612.04

A Wine A Week Keeps Our Creditors Away
We're not sure we believe it ourselves, but it looks like our snotnosed little brother Wine.Woot might be evolving from a crazy idea into a so-crazy-it-just-might-work idea. Along with offering their wines at incredible discounts, the winemakers themselves now routinely join in to discuss each week's offering. If you haven't checked out Wine.Woot lately or, heaven forbid, ever now is the time: enter the code APRILWINE and save $5 off of shipping this week.

It all got to me. What can I say? The positive comments, the well-timed low priced batch of great summertime whites and free shipping!! We even had some record heat to make me think of summer and wine on the patio. It pushed me to go for the full case. (No breaking commandments here.)

It's a short walk from patio to wine cellar, so I better move some glasses downstairs along with an opener...Cellar is out 58 degrees, so how to quickly chill down the last few degrees. There has to be someone here who can help me with that dilemma.
