As if I don't spend enough on Woot already ;)

I was being sarcastic, but only partially. It is good to not be tempted every week. 600+ Vampire Woots prove I'm in the minority anyway!

Sure does. I'm guessing Lucas & Lewellen '05 Cab Franc is involved in some way. L&L/Mandolina have a long history with Woot, plus I saw the '05 below suggested retail ($20 vs. $26) in Whole Foods. If Whole Paycheck has it at $20, I'm betting Woot goes for $15.

Maybe it is discussed earlier in the thread, but kitchen knives are simply *never* never measured this way. Accordingly is misleading, especially for someone who doesn't read the discussion before buying. Also, it is impossible to compare the actual blade length between this set and other well known brands for comparison.

what is tang?

seattlecard wrote:what is tang?

Tang is a sweet and tangy, orange-flavored, non-carbonated soft drink from the United States. Named after the tangerine, the original orange flavored Tang was formulated by William A. Mitchell for General Foods Corporation in 1957 and first marketed (in powdered form) in 1959.

It was initially intended as a breakfast drink, but sales were poor until NASA began using it on Gemini flights in 1965 which was heavily advertised. Since that time, it has been associated with the U.S. manned spaceflight program, so much so that an urban legend emerged that Tang was invented for the space program.

I have a set of Farberware that claims they are stainless steel which cost more than this set, but I had to throw away half the set due to rusting. Wonder how long would it take for these to rust.

WD, you'll never please everyone(no offense intended). Gcdyersb has a valid opinion. Personally I like the new format... 3/times a week, and more variety.
Although the last few items also haven't been interesting to me(jmho), I still like what you're doing here. Keep up the good work.

I spent 200 dollars on two Kyocera ceramic knives. Do I need these?

I spend too much money here.

Zale2101

I've owned these knives for a few years or so now. Except for one incident, where my roommate tried to do an art project with the kitchen shears, they've held up beautifully.

I'm not an avid cook, but sometimes the preparation of fresh ingredients changes it up, and these knives have done a pretty good job. For the price, I'm not sure they could be beat.

My only complaint is the sharpening steel, but that's nothing a replacement sharpener couldn't solve. The original was somewhat flimsy. Come to think of it, it might have been a manufacturing defect, but the blades are full-tang, so no worries there.

This is the reason that aluminum, titanium, and all the rest of the valve metals are kinetically inert, even if they're not thermodynamically stable. Stainless steel behaves in a similar fashion.

Put less nerdy, its the reason the Picasso sculpture in Chicago has not turned into a pile of ferric oxide.

Woot has filters for certain terms. Not sure why you get an error screen trying to edit.

I think the original price is "sitting through a 90 minute timeshare presentation."

That said, though this doesn't seem like a *bad* deal in terms of a cheap but probably "adquate" knife set, I'll cast my vote (not that anyone asked) along with the "haters" crowd here -- I'll vote for 1 or 2 quality Wine Woots a week, rather than 3 with cr**. That is, unless they're Bags of Cr**.

and an occasional Bonsai.

Here's the thing though. The three-a-week hasn't affected the quality of the first two offerings or what we would have been previously offered. Even if we were still at two-a-week, we would still have been offered the poizin and the vampire. In fact, last year, there was no poizin so I would argue this year is better. The knives, I could do without but I think that the three-a-week is too new to judge whether it's going to change the quality, but so far it hasn't and I'm significantly sure it isn't going to. I have utter faith in WD.

Yeah, I guess I can agree with that. It's nice that we can still go back and buy stuff from earlier in the week (once you know how to find the page!)

But I yearn for the "deals so good they sell out.. fast!" You know, 1000 Woots in 2 or 3 days. It just seems we haven't had that level of excitement as much. Of course, having a screamin' deal always helps.

Tis true. It's been a while since there was a feeding frenzy 'round these parts. What do we normally kill each other for though? KR goes pretty wild. Wellington. Corison for those of us with the financial ability to imbibe. I would welcome any of the aforementioned. Especially a Wellington white offering. And sake!

but even historic dynasties would consider this coming deal one of quality.

We had TONS of wellington right before the switch! I don't remember getting feeding frenzy's SO often, they kinda come and go. It definitely does not seem as though sales have been lacking, that is for sure.

I love Justin. I actually just drank a bottle of their reserve chard. Very very good. They also have some gnarly reds: particularly Justification and Iscocolese.

The plot thickens . . . .

There was a House of Savoy, a dynasty of sorts. Some kind of Savoy Vineyard Pinot perhaps?

Or maybe it's a Woot dynasty like Wellington as previously suggested.

A return by Stuart Cellars perhaps? I see they do have a Cab Franc and seem to recall enjoying their Tatria, a nice Bordeaux blend.

Well if you want to get real technical, knives do eventually pair up with wine....wine is used in many dishes we prepare, we chop things with KNIVES that we can prepare with WINE.

Get it?
