I'm going to have to say I was skeptical about purchasing it because it looked like a cheap production at first. Apparently it's a limited edition that is laid to rest in a coffin. That itself sold me hehe.

edit: Apparently they don't come in coffins Sad day...

So I have seen Poizin twice here on woot and really didn't have the patience to wait so I picked up a bottle local. Plus let's say I don't drink wine much but I follow it. Just very curios.

I poured right out of the bottle at room temp and took in the deep magenta tint. Took a sniff. Very fruity cherry and maybe a bit of raspberry. I also really was hit with the alcohol.

Took a taste. Initially I was thinking yum his has some great red fruit. Then I swallowed and bam the heat came and the my mouth dried up. I took a second drink and noticed how smooth it was in comparison to the few wines I have drank, almost like a top shelf vodka. I think the smooth fruit makes up for the dry heat in this case.

I guess I'll have to let this open up a tad and see what effect that has. I'm hoping it takes some of the heat away and I'll be happy.

Did you pick up the 2006 or 2007?

I know what you're talking about. You're just spinning and spinning. It's never happened to me with wine but it has definitely happened with a soy sauce bottle.

Glad to see this. I was worried it wouldn't show again this year...

I bought the 06 for a Halloween party most people enjoyed it. Everyone missed it last year when I didn't take advantage of the side deal.

The bottle alone is enough to be a party hit but 05 and 06 wines could back it up with the taste. I don't really keep tasting notes but I remember liking it. Wouldn't buy again if the wine wasn't good.

Thanks!!

Sorry for the offtopic post...

Any Colorado dwellers willing to sell me a bottle or three of the Boss Monster? There was a mixup, and woot never had record of my order =(

You want an original decanter?!

Like this:

It can be yours for only $500 (or more).

These are the only "original" decanters I can think of and they are all in the high price range. Riedel stemware is very well received though.

Where are you located? I have not yet seen the case we got (it's at Michelle's office), but I'm pretty sure we could part with a bottle or two. PM me details.

And why haven't we seen you at any of the Colorado tastings?!

Speaking of... maybe it's time to start a new Colo event thread?

Funny... we found one at a B&M in LA-area for about $175 via the internetwebz a few years back, had my parents pick it up for me... then saw the decanter at Bed Bath and Beyond and they actually price matched for about the same a few months later (so much for limited edition). BB&B said at the time that they were selling it under cost, but complied with price-match policy! But they wouldn't let us use one of their ubiquitous 20% off coupons in addition. Ah, wedding gifts!

Damn! I was just thinking PM plus 20% coupon = steal. I bet they would have done it if you had pushed. Or maybe I'm wishfully thinking.

yeah, well, at the time, retail at BB&B was about $350, and we got it for under $200... it was pretty much a steal. The lady had to get manager approval since it was so much less... and supposedly their cost was ~$225. I think they actually called the other place to verify the price.

Oh, and the coupons actually explicitly state "no Riedel", though we've used them successfully on the glasses.

I found InZin truly sickly sweet as well as very one-dimensional. It is one of two wines I have actually poured down the drain in the past years!

2 Questions:

Is today the last day that the current offering can be purchased?

If not, where can I find it say, tommorow, if it is not already sold out?

I know, it's not really a fair or direct comparison, but based on that guy's statements ("I've never met a Zin I didn't like"), I just thought the bombastic fruit this wine has would probably go over pretty well based on his like for InZin. For what it's worth, I did qualify the whole shebang by saying that it's fully dry, unlike the InZin...

It is well to remember that there are five reasons for drinking: the arrival of a friend; one's present or future thirst; the excellence of the wine; or any other reason.

We are loving it too - did not buy the Vinturi so we let it decant about an hour in the decanter - had a friend over to help taste and she begged for more. I'm referring to the Boss Monster - very good deal.

I have to pass on this. Would love to try it, but I absolutely must stick to my budget this month.

Slightly off topic, does anyone have ideas for recycling the styrofoam in which my wine woots often get shipped? DH is threatening a woot boycott because of the packaging. And, well, he does seem to have the moral high ground in this argument.

Besides keeping for reuse (since I occasionally ship wine to friends and family), no good thoughts. I do wish more would use the recyclable packaging that was used for the Iron Horse Bdx-3 I got yesterday.

Also -- is it too early to ask for a hint for the next offering?

I placed an order for 6 bottles of the poizin just yesterday and boom in my mailbox 5 minutes ago was a nice cold bottle with a red skull on the front.

LABRAT ENGAGE.

"Choose your poizin."

I have personally drank 9 bottles of this wine in the past two years -- yes i've kept count. Sure, sometimes I "share" with friends but in all honesty they really only get a taste. This stuff gets downed. It's scrumptious.

I look forward to this time of year when i get to casually walk around the streets of new york city carrying a dark bottle of wine with a blood red skull on it. It's menacing, and sure keeps the riffraff away.

This wine can be enjoyed with a bloody steak, or by itself (for the more tolerant).

I'm happy they still have the '07 in stock, it is probably even a bit better than the '07 I drank last year -- and this is a very good deal. Last year 6 bottles came out to ~$23/bottle. This time, 6 bottles comes out to $19.83/bottle (which is the year I was born in). holy scaffolding that's creepy.

so like i said above, choose your poizin -- this is mine.

tasting notes:

top is ascrewed holding back the hot long legs that wrap around your glass. the dark purple liquid stains your teeth. it's like a lumberjack's cologne on your tongue, longing to have a slab of meat sooth the grippy mouth-feel. the hard spicy wood finds its way into your head after it smashes up all the dark fruit that is letting loose on your shriveled palette.

this wine makes me sweat.

That wasn't your report right? If it was, can you expand on, well, everything? We know how much the wine is. We don't know about the taste, tannins, flavor profile, mouth feel, alcohol heat, how did you tasted it (did you even?), other wine it's like, QPR, etc. Can you please address at least some of the above points, if not all of them?

hey kylemittskus, how are you? it's just about to hit 1PM here in new york city, and it's a bit of a chilly day. i'm not sure how you enjoy your wine but i like to do it an environment where i won't get fired for doing it! My job requires that I wait until at least 4pm to start drinking at work.

Since your post sounded somewhat like a report, suggesting food pairings and such, a simple, "Nope. Report to come later" seems like it would have suffficed.

I'm chilled. No worries. It just sounded kind of like a report. And the "expect more drunken notes later" was added after I had replied. This is why I prefaced with "was that your report?" So, "nope" would have solved it.

Hmmmm, 'Rat Poizin'....I'm guessing no rats died tasting the previous Poizin offerings, but if WD wanted to cut down on the rattage begging this would be one way to do it. So if there are all of the sudden 200 rats on this offering be afraid?
