Likewise here in Tampa. I have a sizeable stash of Zin on-hand already, but would like a bottle or two to see what the PoiZin rave is. Would be even willing to trade some InZinerator for this.

Since I plan on bringing out the Humbug wine this holiday season I will have some room for these. In for one for sure.

That was the 2005 with the Antidote. My first woot wine purchase.

Here's a review I posted on CT a while back:

"Ran it through the Decantus. Huge nose of jammy red fruit and vanilla. Very tasty, but very one dimensional. Very good at what it does, which is blow your face off with red fruit and vanilla whipped cream, but this is also what keeps it from being anything more than another Cali fruitbomb Zin." 87 points.

It is well to remember that there are five reasons for drinking: the arrival of a friend; one's present or future thirst; the excellence of the wine; or any other reason.

I still have a bottle left... did I like it enough to get three more? Not sure. Gonna have to think on it a 'lil bit.

I really haven't met a zin I didn't like (well, except for stuff like Barefoot). Boss Monster is pretty good, LOVE the Inzinerator...

'Bout how much do you think I'll like this? I know it's a fave, but I've never had it. Just looking for input so I know whether to order 2 or 3...

I know I'll need at least 2...I've got friends that will want it just for the bottle. The stuff on the inside is a bonus.

I think if you're an Inzinerator fan you'll like this. Bear in mind that this is fully dry whereas the InZin has some RS from the port (at least in the most recent vintage)...

I ordered a single set, which is still probably more than I should get. I do want at least 2 bottles myself, so if there is another NYer out there that wants 2 bottles then I'll email service to see if they can up my order to 2 sets and we can divide them all up. Just need to know quickly before it's too late to up the order.

This offering (3 years ago) was the original reason I opened a W.W account. I made certain to buy 3 the following year it was offered.

A year ago we had some Vampire Vineyards/Dracula wine offering. It paled in comparison to this.

Easily my favorite Zin. Easily in my two favorite Woots a year (the Mumm trio is always a favorite).

I bought this couple years ago at halloween time. Everyone at party loved it. Great wine. I've tried to buy similar wine at grocery store, nothing comes close, even same year, same county, same flavors. I don't understand why, but poizin is great!

Hey Wooters,

Greetings from Armida Winery. It is very exciting to once again offer POIZIN on wine.woot. Winemaker Jessica is taking the day off after working over 30 days in a row, including two long weekend days on the crush pad working hard to get the last load in before forecasted rain, so I'll work through the posts and answer the questions best I can. It is a good thing we got the rest of our fruit in yesterday because the weather dudes got the forecast right this time, it is raining "cats and dogs!" My brother Bruce also says HI to all you wine.wooters, especially those who have stopped by the winery over the last couple of years.

Hi Again,

OK, I'll get started on a few of the questions - The 2007 POIZIN is drinking extremely well right now so you won't be disappointed if you feel a need for a little POIZIN soon after you receive your wine. I also support the wooters who are suggesting that the 2007 POIZIN can be stored for another three to five years. This vintage has plenty of tannins and is well balanced, 3-5 more years is no problem!

Ah, the glorious 2007 vintage! Yes, the 2007 was a beauty. Most of the wines from this vintage are ripe, plump and voluptuous. When they are well-made and well-balanced, the acidity supports the richness and weight of the wine and the palate sensation is wonderful. Tylerhass, you are correct about the alcohol level in the 2007 POIZIN in that it is less than the previous two vintages. We think this is perhaps the best POIZIN we've made to date, particularly from the perspective of balance. Don't get me wrong, this is still a mouth-filling wine with massive fruit, and one with pitch perfect balance. We are very happy with the 2007 POIZIN in that it pretty much hits our benchmark for this wine, something that is not always easy to do given the vicissitudes of Mother Nature!

Between the Main page description touting this as "...jammy, and fruit-forward...", and this comparison to Inzinerator (enough said on that wine), I'm likely to skip this, despite some excellent comments by others (including: "...fully dry...", above).

Winery Q: Would you describe this as a fruit bomb? Jammy? (you may have written that...). It seems incongruous with an ABV @ 15%!

I'm getting a bit confused with these differing descriptions!

Hey Merbill,

To answer your questions, the 2007 POIZIN is almost 80% Zinfandel and the rest of the blend is Petite Sirah and a little splash of Syrah. While we use French Oak for our single-vineyard Pinots and Chardonnays, we've found that our Dry Creek Zins and Petite Sirah really, really prefer American oak. The Zin, P. Sirah and Syrah don't necessarily ripen at the same time so they are not co-fermented. Having separate lots of wine also enhances our ability to blend the best wine we can.

Man! WDavid is loading us with Zin, love it.

But, 9 InZin's and 12 Boss Monster's later .. oh and however many Pedroncelli's there were too ... oh and I think 1 or 2 of the Trinitas were Zins ... Lord!

$20 apiece is a bit much after paying closer to $10 for the InZin/Boss Monster ...

But I joined W.W. two years ago and have yet to get a POIZIN ... may have to jump in despite all the recent zin purchases, and the cash just blown on the honda pilot ...

wonder if this will even make it to hear the rats ...

Just received my Monster Boss today here in FL and thank goodness temps are cooler than it's been being carried around in UPS truck today. Anxious to open tonight as I will decant and use Vinturi Aerator..side by side testing. Unfortunately I do not have a proper decanter as of yet, so will pour into a container of sorts. Decanter - no doubt been asked numerous times, what's a good one you folks recommend, ? Recent purchase - Riedel Vinum Pinot Noir/Burgundy Wine from Wine Enthusiast..very nice glasses and pleased with purchase. Not sure I need to spend a lot on decanter..thoughts?

I've had 2 Monsters, with friends, and it was well received. Used decanter/vinturi for both.

I bought 3 bottles the first time it was offered, way back when. Wasn't terribly thrilled with the first bottle I drank right away, it was good but not great. However over the years the wine aged very well. Opened the second bottle a year after and I finished the third bottle about four months ago.
Excellent.

I think that this wine is a good buy but you need give it a couple of years before you open it. It ages nicely if stored right.

My first wine.woot was the '06 poizin...would love to go in for this but no room in the budget....now if this somehow doesnt sell out by Friday, I'll be in for a set.
I really enjoyed the '06, it's what got me hooked on wine.woot.

Alright... I went in for 2. Was gonna do 3 but still waiting on another Wellington or Ty offer (I need more TyTanium pronto!!!)

For the screw tops on these... does anybody else have to get the pliers to get them off? For some reason I can almost never get it unscrewed by hand and it is really embarrassing asking someone if they have pliers so I can open the wine (we stopped taking it to parties because of that) which is fine... it just means more for us. hehe

I have never had this problem. Maybe you have small, feminine hands.

And I would be all over more Ty although I am horribly saddened that the Field Blend as we knew it is gone forever.

Great pic of perhaps the most unique winemaker on the Magical History Tour - certainly a fox, with great ink.

The setting of the winery was great. Beautiful view, fabulous bocce court. Everyone at the winery could not have been nicer despite some mix-up about our timing.

I had not had any Armida wines before the tour. I tasted well over a dozen wines there.

The winery's style is definitely very ripe fruit, in a fruit forward, high alcohol, style.

They could be poster children for the old 'No Wimpy Wines' alliance if they didn't have a more unique niche with the "Poi Zin" and the whole Holloween schtick.

If you like immense Zinfandel, with a lot of forward, very ripe fruit and the accompanying high alcohol, you will like these wines. They are well-made and were very popular with the Touristas who appreciate this style.

Those winos whose palates are like mine -- preferring wines made with grapes picked at 23 Brix or so, with alcohol coming in around 13.5% or less -- will probably not enjoy these wines as well as they would enjoy (for example) Frog's Leap Zin.

So, on this one, the choice is about the style you like, not the intrinsic quality.

Well, I suppose the reviewer should have written bi-dimensional, since he listed two specific characteristics... maybe he'd been drinking...

It is well to remember that there are five reasons for drinking: the arrival of a friend; one's present or future thirst; the excellence of the wine; or any other reason.

I had a case of the '06 and I think the aluminum (or whatever it is made out of) that was attached to the neck of the bottle would come loose and twist while I was twisting the cap. That meant I would have to get something to secure the bottom part so I could unscrew the top part (the cap).

It takes nothing away from the wine itself and it never bothered me doing it at home... but after it happening twice at different parties I just decided to take something else the next time.

I've only had a couple of other twist-top wines and I don't remember this happening to them. Just thought it was odd is all.
