for any of the folks on the fence, and who may be familiar with Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa, on a recent visit there, the sommelier at the restaurant highly recommended the Earthquake PS. We got a bottle. It was Wonderful.
Im not good at getting into wine details, but lets just say, at this price, Im in for three...

Michael David = 7 Deadly Zins, right?
I would really like to hear Loweeel's take on these. Anyone seen him?

Maybe it is because of the fact that this wine is widely distributed that the winery doesn't really need to depend on direct-to-consumer sales, therefore, the lack of ship-to states?
Yep, MD is heavily distributed, which also may throw a monkey wrench into the deal. The fact that they are bound to a distributor may preclude the possibility of direct sales. Wine sales law is really hokie.
I had dinner with the NC MD distributor not too long ago.

The prices are ABSURDLY good. This is a can't miss. These are big, fruity, new world, Lodi PS. If you don't like new world wines, don't buy them. If you enjoy them, go all-in.
Oh, and PLEASE DECANT.

Work has been busy! I have to earn money to buy PS.
This is a very good deal. The selling point with this is really on the price side. The quality is nothing to sneeze at, but these are not Foley, Rasmussen '01 Reserve, or Vincent Arroyo.
Quality-wise, I'd put this about around where the Ursa offering was (speaking of, I just cracked my last bottle of the vineyard blend last night and it was drinking very PleaSantly)but with a wider quality spread among the bottles -- the Earthquake is higher (I'd say mid-high -- much like T-Vine, if any of you have had that), the Windmill is lower (but still nice -- sort of like the Sebastiani THE CRUSHER PS if you've had that).
The Petite Petit is a really nice, structured bottle that is more for old-world palates -- the PV provides nice back end that really structures the exuberantly new-world Lodi PS fruit.

1. Are the tannins face smashing in all these wines, or are they tamed a bit?
2. For the 2007's, did the great vintage give you the nice TAs and pHs, or was some acid adjustment required?
The tannins are not typically face-smashing in Michael-David wines (or Lodi PS, for that matter).

I'd be very interested in the winemakers' suggested drinking windows.

And the quote in my profile, by the way, comes from the label on Earthquake. It's awesome.

Richard Auffrey (aka "The PaSsionate Foodie") sampled 6 different PS wines a while back, inc. the '06 Petite Petit and the '05 Earthquake.
He didn't like the Earthquake, but I think it is because he didn't allow it to open up properly -- the funk blew off and the wine opened up because it benefited GREATLY from some air.
Ok, I'm back to work. Lunch break is over -- I'll be around tonight to answer your next batch of questions during the Yankees Glorious Victory For Make Benefit Wonderful City of Nieuw Amsterdam

I'm traveling back to California to see my family for the holidays and would hate to find that my wine gets sent back, lost, or otherwise sits in a UPS warehouse and spoils because I can't get the timing right.
I'm in Northern Virginia as well, I used to always have things shipped to my office because there is always someone there to sign for it. Unfortunatey the pinheaded management banned all alcohol from the premises even if it's double wrapped in a shipping box. I got a small box at the UPS store and every body ships there. The UPS store guys send me an email when it arrives.
