How does it taste? The blend sounds very good.

I live paycheck to paycheck thanks to woot.

(sarcasm) WHAT!? North Korea is not on the ship to list? How dare they? Woot, this is unheard of. (/sarcasm)

On a related note, can I really purchase 2 cases this time?

The picaro is medium bodied with good fruit. Very easy drinking.

Aged red wine at this price is a huge steal...unless...

I'll get the question everyone is asking out there early - what is the drinking window on these? Are they nearly past prime or do they still have a year or two of further aging left?

If I hear enough good things I could be tempted to split a case if one or two other MD/DC Metro area folk want to go in on it!

THANK YOU FOR ASKING!

Yes, I confirmed this prior to the sale.

Seems like some of these wineries are itching to clear out their stock... Time to make room for the new vintages?

Not that I'm complaining. These per bottle prices are what I'd normally be looking for. Unfortunately my wine locker is over flowing.. No room for another case

We got a mixed case from this winery about 6 months ago via WineWoot, this wine included. It's quite good & still drinking well.

Based on the pH and alcohol level, this should be holding up. Can the winemaker confirm? Was the acidity developed naturally or via the winemaking process?

The Picaro is showing well and we are still pouring it in our tasting room. You can most likely get another year or so out of it, but why wait? Enjoy it now! Cheers!

Narrow shipping window here, though ... soon it'll start getting risky temperature-wise ...

This one is currently selling for 18.95 a bottle on the website... looks to be a steal even before factoring in Woot's $5.00 shipping

The Picaro remains one of our top selling wines. We have extra stock and we've done the woot thing before and it was very succesful so we decided to give it a whirl again!

JanKris is always well-priced, but I think if you peruse CT, you will see VERY mixed reviews. This is, thankfully, an easy pass for me.

Or you could save two and put them in one of those cool hats with the straws. After all, you'll want to have your hands free to fight off the zombies!

JanKris' wine is fine for this price but can often be purchased for less than half of this, especially in CA. I preferred this over the Riatta in the previous years I have found their wine at steep discounts. I won't reveal my source so as not to piss off WW or the winery, but this deal is good, not incredible. Reliable everyday drinker but probably not too much more than that depending on your palate.

The JanKris woot (purple labels) back in 09 nearly led to me never buying from woot again, it was that bad. I'm glad (or not, depending on whether I'm thinking of my wallet) later years appear to have improved, according to some people.

Looks like a very interesting mix that could be good, but I already have three cases on their way. Going to have to pass.

This is a tough one. At this price point I usually automatically go in for a case but the comments are making me nervous. I think I will hold off waiting for more specific comments on this wine. Anyone?

Kyle, maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see any notes on this particular wine.

Hope I won't later regret it, but I'm going in for one. My pals at work will be happy to snap it up at this price, and are willing to tale a flier on an unknown.

The CT reviews I found are for the 2004. I didn't see any reviews for the 2005.

Bear in mind that many of us did not bother entering reviews or scores for that, we just poured it down the drain (and bounty huntered on here a bit).

Hopefully whatever issues they had in the production and bottling of the 2004's does not apply to this wine. That offering back in 2009 contained a lot of, to quote a fellow woot wino, "floor polish."

Here are the Lab Rat links for the 2005 Picaro from May 2011:

The overall opinion was "not complex", "ok table wine" and "better than equally priced grocery store wine". There were no negative reports of spoiled/flawed wine like there were after the 2/2009 woot /w the purple labels.

After the way we burned through our supply of $7 Costco/Kirkland Malbec, I'm maybe in the market for another midweek porch wine...

I went in for one. If it is good I will drink it. If it is no good I will use it to cook with. If if turns to Vinegar I will use it as Vinegar. So for about $7 a bottle this wine can have up to 3 different uses.

I'm feeling the same thing. While the only notes on CT are from the 2004 vintage, 37 notes with an average of 79.2 pts places me firmly in the auto-pass category.

That's far too large of a sample size for me to see pointing in the wrong direction.

Thank you for going to to the trouble of finding and posting those. I feel more confident about my purchase! Sounds like it will be decent, at least, if given a little time to breathe.

Agreed. That's still the only bad wine I've gotten from woot and I won't touch this based on that memory. Hopefully it's improved, but I'm not willing to risk it.

That might be the best incentive to get one of those hats ever. Tho seeing as we still have time before the zombie apocalypse hits, I might use it as a gardening hat instead. Nothing like a constant stream of wine available while digging in the dirt...

When a wine is described as an "everyday drinker", its a red flag for me. I don't drink wine everyday, but if I did, I would want to drink something really good.

Ha, thanks!! Has anyone else noticed that wine.woot moderation had become less irreverent and more obsequious to the wine makers? It's as if a big company had taken over and changed editorial policy to be safer and candid. Fewer straightforwardly did not like comments highlighted, and a general smoothing of opinion, I feel.

Lovely people, friendly and often responsive, but the underlying atmosphere is a little less... real? I lived in LA, I know what I'm talking about.
