This wine is a wonderful expression of the varied fruit and mineral flavors of the different sections of the vineyard. The abundant rainfall during the winter was followed by a cool spring and summer. An increase in August temperature followed by a heat spike in September brought ripeness and balance to the fruit. Harvest brix had a greater range of 25-27.5°. The wine blend was assembled six months before bottling.

Haywood Estate Winery
- Owner:
- Peter Haywood
- Founded:
- 1980
- Location:
- Sonoma, CA
The hills beyond the historic town of Sonoma embrace a small valley called Chamizal where grape vines are planted on terraces carved from the rocky slopes. It was here in 1974 that Peter Haywood began planting vineyards that he named Los Chamizal, Spanish for the thickets of hardwood that covered the land. By 1980 Haywood Winery produced its first wines from grapes that could adapt to the rugged terrain. Today Haywood Estate Winery emphasizes single vineyard Zinfandels, its Italian relative Primitivo, as well as Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay, each wine demonstrating the unique site characteristics of their location within the vineyard. In addition to the current Estate portfolio, grape varieties farmed on the 90 producing acres of los Chamizal Vineyards include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Verdot, Malbec, Grenache, Mourvedre, and Syrah. Current Annual Production is 5,000 Cases.
